So I'll be missing a bunch of classes again, and I'll try going back around 11 and loiter in the parking lot again in hopes of getting a space so I can attend the afternoon classes.

Seriously, needs more fucking parking.

Now, to be fair, I used the Asus utility which automatically overclocked the CPU. It is possible I could reduce voltage, etc. and still be stable and cooler. I will probably look into doing that, but to be honest, I was shocked at how different OCing the i7 is compared to the Core2 and I was a bit overwhelmed.

I am not willing to tweak for days on end. I don't have that kind of time or patience any more. If the H60 drops the temp by 10 degrees, I'll live with that. I might reduce the voltage a hair as well. It is running at 4.4 Ghz at 1.3 V, and that seems high to me. I think I'll try reducing it to 1.2 V and see what happens.

Let's see... deposit a check, go through circuits homework, go through physics homework, study calculus, study circuits.

Know the worst part about OCing?

Even with the tweaking I always feel like my PC will break whenever I boot it up. Same as using Linux on a Desktop I can never be sure it will run fuly stable all the time. I would just stick with the Asus OC TBH.

Wait because you can't find parking your skipping your morning classes o_O

Yep. Don't really have a choice. Every nearby parking lot and street has signs customers only or residents only, and those are enforced heavily, because of the school. The school seems to have pissed off the church that let us park there as an overflow lot, so it's down to the single parking lot. And that parking lot was full 15 minutes after classes started. Nobody would be leaving for nearly an hour, but another couple hundred people would be coming in to look for parking also. Parking illegally inside the lot gets you a ticket too.

I probably will stick with the Asus OC and maybe reduce the voltage a bit. I am not sure how much a .1 V drop would reduce temps, but I would imagine it could be a couple of degrees or more.

My last rig (still in my sig and I need to move it to a new case still) was stable at 4 Ghz for 3 years. Over that course of time, I only had a few minor issues. The big issue I had was quirky USB, but I think I may have found the cause. When I disassembled my computer this weekend, I found a metal standoff that had no corresponding screw hole. Makes me wonder if there was a short.

I was also using older AS5, so it is possible it isn't good or I may not have taken enough care to spread it. It seemed thicker than usual. I ordered some more AS5 and some AS cleaner but to be honest, I may just stick with the Corsair thermal pad.

Also, the cabling in this rig is messier than my last box and may obstruct airflow. When I install the new cooler this weekend, I think I will install a second fan on the radiator (I'll do push-pull as an intake) and may reorient the upper front case intake fan as an exhaust. I've got 3 exhaust fans at the top though, so that may be overkill and it might be better to keep it as intake.

AS5 isn't the top TIM anymore, hasn't been for years. MX-3 is one of the best, I think IC7 is the top one right now, but it's stupidly expensive.

I hate cabling inside of systems. I don't know how some of you guys make them so neat. I think I'll try to neaten it up a little this weekend as well.

AS5 is adequate for my needs. As IDC (I believe) said, there are only a couple of degrees difference between the top and mid-range ones, and the AS5 was cheap.

I know what you mean. I ended up bending the side of my case behind the motherboard when I tried to hide all of my cables. I'm just not dexterous enough to do that or that patient really.

I'm not looking for an exotic overclock to be honest. I'd even live with 4 Ghz if I had to and it was much, much cooler, but I'd be happy with 4.4 or 4.5 Ghz. If the H60 is as good as everyone says, maybe a tad more.

That's my issue, and I have a Cosmos S case and it is monstrous and many cables aren't long enough to reach. I've got a lot of extension cables in use but even still, it is a tight reach in some cases. I was happy that I did manage to get the 8 pin CPU power to go from the bottom of the case to the top of the case under the motherboard, though. I had an extension cable that worked perfectly and I used a zip tie to anchor it to the board so it won't droop or get sucked into a fan.

Opinions: Right now, I've got 3 intake fans -- two on the front of the case (one in front of the 3.5" drive module and one above that) and one on the bottom of the case. I've got 3 exhaust fans at the top of the case. The back case fan is currently exhaust I believe (fan on CPU cooler pushes hot air to it). I think I will mount the radiator there and make the fan(s) on it work as push/pull intake. What to do with the top front intake fan? Keep it as intake or make it exhaust?

So your pulling from the top back through your radiator? I would make it exhaust I think.

That would leave the bottom of your case going front to back and the top going back to front right?

Might be a question for aigomorla though.
