30mbps?

Psssh, even at almost 40mbps I feel like I could use more...

Sure beats the 1mbps that is typically standard here. I can go up to 250/30 though 50/30 is more than enough. Though it would be nice if I could have the option of higher upload, with the option of being allowed to run servers. (currently not allowed). 100/100 would be pretty awesome and I'd host all my stuff from home. Though 30 would also be enough for that if it was allowed. Once the parts for my new VM server come in I'll probably host a hyperboria node though. Technically, it's not a server as in, http, ftp etc... which is what they don't want. It's just an encrypted darknet tunnel, so within that network I'll then host web servers and stuff.

40 to 5 here

so how important is upload speed when you are on multiplayer games

ultimately it depends on the game, generally however ping will be your most obvious to "feel" in game though. I can't imagine many games using over a Mb or two per second. and even that most games probably wouldnt need.

Maybe I should have resized the video before uploading. They are like 1GB each :awe:

To me upload is important for stuff like offsite backups, or even simple things like uploading pics/videos on the internet. Incredible the difference 30 makes compared to 1.

The local cable company here keeps boasting how their service powered by fibre but it's only fibre to the node and is shared, and the upload still stinks. In fact I don't even know if they have battery backup at the nodes. Don't think they do, from what I heard. The FTFH service here is all glass from the CO to the home, with no equipment in between, just splitter boxes where the wave lenghts are split off. There's about 32 customers per fibre from the CO. (actually it may be 64, I forget now).

if Ethernet is an option, use it. I went from 15-25Mbps on wifi to ~60Mbps with Ethernet.

Yep I only use wifi for portable devices. I also treat my wifi as a somewhat public network so that vlan can only access a handful of internal systems and not everything. I also have a fully public wifi network that can only access DNS and that's it. I keep it there as a courtesy if the power goes out the neighbors still have wifi, and also for plausible deniability if ever draconian copyright laws make it here, which sadly, will probably happen because of the TPP, which is a world wide legislation being secretly passed by many world governments.
