I'll be running development VMs on this box too in all likelihood, so I suppose I should compare VM performance and see how much of a difference HT makes.

when it comes to baremetal, memory and disk performance pwns all.

So what I am saying is you need lots of memory and a SSD SAN :sneaky:

This will be my workstation and will just have VMWare Server or something like that installed for dev purposes. I'm aware that disk and memory are the most important since I built the two prod VMWare clusters here. 😀

you really should bare metal and run your daily machine in a vm

yes, I am implying your garage should get a cooling upgrade and a SAN

Can't. I will play games on this box too.

The geek in me would like to, but the practical side of me is planning on discontinuing boxes. My HTPC is the first system to get the axe.

ah, then yeah, you run vm on top of windows <shudder>

axing boxes??? what are you nuts? D:

I've minimized the number of computers. No need for an HTPC anymore... the apple tv does everything with no up-keep

My Roku doesn't play back DVDs I have stored on my network, but we never use that functionality and if I can P2V that box, I'll still have it available for when we do need it.
