sdi fox, found the model # VSX-D498 for my receiver and you guys are right, the manual I downloaded does show the opticals are 'in' but is there a specific setting it needs to be at for my TV to have it's audio output on it?

You should just be able to turn the input on the receiver to optical in and the TV audio will play on it.

Before I bought my new receiver, I had an old one without HDMI and I would hook my Xbox up to my Panasonic plasma via HDMI and then the TV to the receiver via optical. That way, I could play my Xbox through the receiver.

Thanks Indy, but the problem is I don't see anything on the receiver or instructions that give me the option for changing to optical in. :(

you need to assign the optical input to a specific input set. for example, TV.

there has to be a setup option where you can select this. I tried to download the manual from pioneer but the link doesn't work...

RTFM :awe:

reading more of the manual (better than doing work) looks like I need to use the remote to move to the right input channel (go to CD first w/ the main unit button then use the \/ or /\ arrows on the remote to use the digital inputs). better not lose the remote then!

I think there will be SB-E CPUs available for socket 1155 as well so I could possibly upgrade to something faster later, but I highly doubt that there will be an SB-E CPU that is significantly faster than a 2600K.

RTFM should be printed on a sticker and taped over the power cords of all electronics.

Printing RTFM on the inside cover of the manual is retarded. The reader is already reading the manual...

Same as those movie piracy warnings.

There are only 2 type of people that will see that warning. The people that are legally entitled to watch it, which means you are accusing them of being thieves.

The people that are not legally entitled to watch it will not be deterred by the warning, because they are already watching it.

So what is the fucking purpose? Annoy the legal ones.

Sometimes you wonder about the thought process of idiots that think this shit up.
