My sister is a total continual fuck up, and my parents are unwilling to do ANYTHING to punish her. Well, more accurately, my mother might, my father derails any attempt, so we get nowhere. Accordingly, she learns that continue to fuck up, but nothing bad will happen, she'll keep getting her way, and voila - never grows up.

All four people in the house are miserable.

If they punished her, we'd only have one miserable person.

Basic utilitarianism says...

Nope, apparently my mother doesn't want to do anything against my sister.

So she will continue being a lazy arrogant incompetent idiot, and everybody in the house will continue to be miserable, and the parents will take the financial hit because of her stupidity.

They offered to help me out, I tried to demur, they insisted.

She fucked up, now they have to bail her out, no choice really.

WTF.

Some numbnut from Ohio has been giving out my number as if it were his.
Also, all his friends are rude assholes. Tomorrow I need to change it.

What happened to her?

I'll try to be brief. Her habit is to stay up until 1-2 AM, then sleep until 10 AM. During the day, she watches Law & Order, CSI, and reality TV. We switch off kitchen cleaning weekly; we routinely come home to find the kitchen hasn't been cleaned and she's left for work. A general habit of being as lazy as possible around the house, and when confronted, she'll either lie or start yelling, if forced to do something, slam and bang things around in the process.

As for the car, she got a speeding ticket doing 83 in a 65 before summer. Came home, complained why did she get a ticket, Dad and I are the big speeders, was pissed when she got scolded for it. She ended up getting lucky, and the cops somehow lost the paperwork. At that point, she took that as a "speeding isn't a problem".

Then several days ago, she cut somebody off, got clipped. Blames a bad intersection (it isn't), blames sunlight (wtf), claims they had a directional on (lol), and said 6" would've been enough to avoid the accident (try 2', from the marks on the car). So now insurance will go up, or pay out of pocket, either way, the parents are going to end up paying that for her, because she just goes out shopping and spending all her money.

That was as brief as I could make it. I'm annoyed, it's not fair to my parents at all, it's not even fair to me, everybody is miserable with this, and she's planning to come home to live here for 4-5 years.

I'd say that they should make her pay back every penny that they're forced to cover for her, despite the fact that gradual return doesn't compensate truly for having to handle full amounts on the spot, but more likely, they won't ever ask her for it.

On the other hand, I've made multiple offers to liquidate my stock account, despite being $600 shy of desired value, and have said I'll be handling tires, maintenance, and repairs for my new car.

The ONLY thing she does well at all is academics. Graduating in three years instead of four, with a low to medium 3.* GPA. Strangely enough, academics is pretty much what I suck at.

I am becoming increasingly less concerned that I will become the stereotypical son living in the basement forever.

Because with the exception of academics, I'm quite functional on my own. I'm good at figuring out finances*, I want to move out/live on my own, I have reasonably good time management, and a very good work ethic (for work, not school).

My sister is the inverse, so I figure she's more likely to become the failure.

*Speaking of finances, what is a basic rule of personal finances? Underestimate income, overestimate expenditures. I follow that rule. My sister believes in the reverse, even when told her numbers are wrong, she ignores them.

So let's say I build an i7 rig. What is the possibility I can uninstall the drivers off my current OS image, pop that drive on the i7 board, and have it boot into Windows successfully so I can reinstall the drivers?
