I was behind a BMW today. A 740Li in the fourth lane... with his right rear window covered by a trash bag, and an M badge next to the 740Li.

Now, for those of you who don't care that much about cars, there is no M 740Li. Besides, the badge was spaced too close to the 740Li marking, the text style didn't match, and the biggest giveaway - the M badge was crooked.

To most people, the crooked thing wouldn't be noticed, especially not on a highway. But I can see 1/16" or less bow over the span of a 30" board, so to me, this was glaringly obvious.

Anyways, Mr. Giant Ego is cruising along in his exclusive BMW lane at 73 MPH.

The cruising speed for the fourth lane on this highway late morning or early afternoon is close to 80.

He's going fast enough to pass anything in the other three lanes, which keeps a stack behind him. I'm right behind him, then there's a gap behind me to an old Nissan Altima with two-tone paint. You know that style of two-tone - ran the car into something, and replaced it with a fitting body panel of a totally different color. At least it wasn't three-tone, unless the rear was messed up too.

Between Nissan and BMW, it's enough to form a massive line stretching as far as I can see, but the cruising speed is just enough and there's just enough cars in the other three lanes that nothing can happen.

It takes until a massive interchange between two big highways before I can drop two lanes and start cruising by. At which point you have the usual dopes from the other highway coming on and going straight to the second lane at 45 MPH (speedlimit is 65, and I'm pushing 80 to make my pass)... and monsieur statey, just chilling out, no radar gear going, on the triangle. Statey doesn't notice me, sans gear, it means he's just doing paperwork and terrorizing drivers. I get in front of the BMW.

I leave the highway some seven miles later, by which point the BMW is out of sight. I outpaced him that badly, without really trying to either.

Yeah, I told her I was done dealing with it. I like her parents fine, but the entire family is a bunch of freaking crybabies when it comes to the holidays. They all want their way and if they don't get it, they whine and cry.

Her brother and his wife are asshats and are always late to Christmas morning. The year before last, they were REALLY late and as a result, we were still opening presents when the dinner guests arrived. My wife was pissed.

Then last year, they (brother and sister-in-law) get the bright idea to have Christmas at their house. Now, keep in mind that my wife's parents buy a ton of presents for their kids and would have to haul all of them over there rather than them coming to their house with only a handful of gifts.

My wife's brother avoids talking to her and instead, talks to me. I get a text from him saying they really want us to come up and they won't have ANY gathering at their house without us. I forward it to my wife and tell her to deal with it.

So my wife's parents were pissed because the brother's gathering was contingent on us going up there. Everyone up there seemed to be pissed at me because this event was on a Friday night and I was in the midst of a massive migration. I explained and was accused of lying by the sister-in-law (not directly, but she hinted at it).

So I finally had enough of my wife's mom bitching at her, the brother and SIL bitching at the mom, and all of it coming down on me. I ripped my wife a new one and told her that her job is to stick up for me, NOT to make mom and everyone else happy and I'd personally tell them to go fuck themselves if she didn't handle it.

So that caused a huge fight up there and as a result, the brother and SIL didn't come to Christmas with their kids. No loss for us -- it was quiet and we enjoyed it. And we got to eat on time!

It is very different for me because my entire family is always extremely flexible with holiday schedules and no one is a dramatic baby if they don't get their own way.
