The point is to move off the IT treadmill without sacrificing salary. I believe the PMP is the least expensive, least risky, and least amount of work to do that compared to other alternatives.

I was actually being sarcastic here. I can assure you that my PMP is different than yours. What I know about IT can fill a cup of tea and there would be room left for an entire rack of equipment! 😀

And wouldn't the PMP be just as risky as the MBA? Admittedly, everybody, their brother, and their dog are taking MBA courses right now.

LOL at people arguing over speed of 2TB+ hard drives! Just get a decent one and put things you need fast on an SSD or array of them and call it quits. No wonder so many males in their late 20s have gray hairs! 😀

An array of SSD's goes into the category of ridiculously expensive.

Not really considering what people blow money on in other ways. 😉

A rack full of Pliants? Yes that is expensive.
A half dozen Intels or Crucials? Not ridiculously expensive but ridiculously fast compared to the alternative of spinning platters.

I do miss the "sleet bouncing off a porthole" sound of arrays of busy 15K disks though. 😎

1-2k for just the drives... that's a common budget for a whole build.

Talk about major derailment! 😀

If the MBA costs that much more, wouldn't it stand to reason it provides more of an income boost?

It doesn't without management experience and for me to move to the next level of management would give me a salary in the ballpark of a PMP.

I've known 4 people who got their MBAs in the last 10 years. 2 of them were actually demoted due to corporate consolidation. In their cases, they were just out the time as the company paid 100% of the cost.

The two others have a huge amount of debt and it didn't help them at all. Why go through all the work and even more importantly, spend that much money when something more easily attainable is available that I actually have applicable experience for?

NEVER pay for an MBA out of pocket.
