Sadly, in 79, I was a senior in high school. Glory days, don'tcha know?? Even more sadly, it goes downhill from there!!
One thing I'd like to fix:
OMG, oil is $5 a gallon!!!
Geez, you'd better hope not! At 42 gallons a barrel, that'd work out to $210 a barrel, or $10 a gallon for gasoline!!!
Let's see.......1979......
Hey, how about that new song from Queen? Man, it's righteous!
.....or......
How do you like that new song from Kool and the Gang? :music: :music: Celebrate good times, come on!! :music: :music:
Or my favorite, since the Ayatollah Khomenei (sp?) had led the Iranian revolution that took the hostages:
"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran! Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!!
Bomb Iran!! Yes, Bomb Iran!!" (sung badly to the Beach Boys tune, Barbara Ann)
What else? As mentioned, 8 tracks were still prevalent, though you could still find just about anything on vinyl. A new format called "audio cassettes" were just being introduced in that time frame, though not too many people had them. There were no vcr's, let alone dvd's or even laser disks (in 1981 I bought my parents an RCA video disk player, which was the predecessor to the laser disk, which basically was the predecessor to the audio cd and dvd's). A quality stereo had a turntable that could handle all 3 speeds (33-1/3, 45 & 78 rpm), and a reel to reel tape player, plus TWO WHOLE SPEAKERS!!
It was a different world, yes it was. We knew who our enemies were, and were ready and willing to kick their asses when necessary. The bad feelings concerning the military that were so prevalent after vietnam were fading, and when Ronald Reagan took the White House a year later, we entered the "golden age" of military service. The only real worry we had, globally, was whether some idiot was going to start the "big one". Other than that, it was fun.
To tell the truth, looking at the world nowadays, I'm glad I opted not to have any kids. This place is fvcked up now!
