Thank you all so much for your support during the past month. We won the grant, and soon will be building the outdoor confinement area for the cats. What a great Christmas gift for all concerned!
 
awesome. www.10thlife.org folded here a couple years ago due to losing Madoff's burned investors.

archive.org still has some shots available.

They had various open 'pens' with internal closable houses warmed by incandescent bulbs. Something like 1200 cats at their heyday.
 
We have sent all the documentation requested by Pepsi in advance of actually issuing the funds, and now we are waiting for them to send a check. All of that money must be accounted for in relation to the project idea. We hope it can actually all be done on $5k.

In the meantime we've been working on other aspects of the shelter project. One big thing that needed to be done was make a website. I finally got that started today. It isn't much yet but at least we now have a real presence online. Next up will be a Facebook page.

As the year draws to a close, we are actively seeking donations (tax deductible) to cover vet bills. Lately several of the cats have required costly care. Indeed, we almost lost one last week, but fortunately were able to get to an emergency clinic in time. We don't know yet how the kitty's health will hold up now how much additional care he will need. Chances are that our vet bills will keep climbing.

Cat House on the Kings was a cool video.

IMHO that site used to be better with more room by room pictures, now it's laid out more about gathering money.

Unfortunately gathering money for animal stray and rescue care is a large part of helping them. You are competing with a lot of very worthy causes for peoples support and also with a segment of people seen even on this board whenever an animal thread gets going questioning the notion of spending any money on helping out fighting animal cruelty, supporting shelters, and trying to do something to help the feral populations caused by people viewing pets as a disposable commodity.

Linflas: That's why we haven't tried to do any fundraising aside from the Pepsi grant so far. Also, I absolutely hate asking for money, even in the relative obscurity of the web. But I guess the same flaw(?) in me that makes me a sucker for a suffering animal is what enables me to swallow my timidity and entreat others to help me to help them.

So far this month we have racked up almost $1k in vet bills with at least half again that much to come in the next week or so. Not to mention having already spent over $500 on routine cat expenses like food and litter in the past month. All of which comes from two folks living on a combined income of well under $20k annually.

We have made a few calls, none of which have been answered/returned. I guess I could try emailing. Might be best to wait until the website is more complete, and in the meantime maybe include some text links to favorite cat products. I know there are also ways to "monetize" a website with stuff like google ads. I think that might not even yield enough income to pay the cost of hosting the site. But maybe it would be better than I think.

I dunno, I'm just tossing ideas around. Sure do appreciate your input.

I understand this. Most of my donations go to animal charities.

There is a difference in asking for money for a cause and having a site that looks like it's just after a buck.

The road is hard right now for animal charity. A huge site here died after several years and hundreds of cats had to be euthanized. Many of the S. Floridians, esp Palm Beacher's that were stroking $1000+ checks had extra money dry up by getting burned by Madoff.

The latter part is a problem...not everyone is suited to fight for a cause. You biggest ally is going to come from getting a local vet to take on the cause with either reduced fees or pro bono work. Getting taught how to give your own vaccines can go a long way.
