My family moved from Maine to The Keys back in 92. We drove, hauling stuff, stopped and stayed with family in Virginia. Got back under way, eventually passed through Miami/Hialeah/Florida City 2 days after Hurricane Andrew clobbered the place. Everything was just obliterated.

I will never forget it, and it's why I'll never screw with anything over a CAT2. Just leave, it ain't worth it.
And they're bigger now..

Yup, climate change might eventually start giving us regular CAT5s that go extra swole thanks to an overheated ocean. It's gonna suck. Climate change migration is going to be a big deal someday. I still can't get over the water temps they were seeing down off The Keys last summer.

More people were killed directly in Andrew, but Irma was a worse storm as far as wind speed and size. The Keys made it through Andrew with barely a light breeze I was told. Irma messed up Monroe county pretty good though. Was proud to see my family's old house standing tall and pretty unphased afterward. Our investments in hardening a 3 story structure definitely paid off for the buyers.

This slow moving wet bitch just camped her ass right on top of the Ohio River Valley!!

This silver maple in my front yard has a widowmaker in it that hasn't fallen in two storms. I hope I wake up tomorrow morning and see it in the yard.

Yep, it's going to hover over Kentucky and between that and the low pressure system nearby, we're going to get rain all weekend.
Stupid widowmaker didn't fall overnight even though the wind shifted! It's drizzling now but it rained on and off all day long. Supposed to do the same thing tomorrow…

Doesn't look like I'm gonna hit the last day of Louder Than Life tomorrow. 😤

Somehow reading a lot of takes about how moving away from the coasts isn't a solution for climate change because of what's happening in western NC.

To anybody who has been to place with significantly varying vertical elevations the downsides of living in valleys during major rainfall events should have already been pretty apparent historically. With hurricanes getting larger and packing more moisture than ever before the risk seemed obvious to me.

Not to worry Trump will help them everything instead of relying on evil dems..

I've wondered why the Galactic Empire designed enormous motherships with what appears to be an aerodynamic design when there's no air to penetrate in space. Meh, it's just me being .005 with The Force.

Although Trump will do a press shot, throwing 1 roll of paper towels to show just exactly the total amount of aid he's allowing to get through... instead of actually delivering any aid.

Plasma storms?

Yeah, never thought of that, getting anywhere near a megastar would create a constant windstorm of charged particles. Don't know what kind of resistance it'd put up on a tactile surface of any kind other than electrical resistance.

The Asheville area got slammed.

I have family in NC. Place is absolutely WRECKED. Helene has killed more than 60 people & caused over $15 billion in damage so far. imo the news is under-reporting this; it's not even the top news story across the top sites. There are some really good-hearted people doing amazing rescue work down there right now!

And yet there's untold millions of Trumpers that still don't believe there's such a thing as the climate change effect because they were told by their GOP corporate apparatchiks it was a hoax perped by the anti-business commie liberals. You got'ta wonder in awe how such overwhelming evidence can be ignored simply because it's against conservative party hearsay to do so. Weird.
