Besides, not everybody is foolish enough to constantly throw money at these manufacturers for what is at most incrementally improved product.
What he said was irrelevant, because he doesn't decide what the criteria are. The industry has declared AGP dead, what PCSurgeon says doesn't matter to gamers. (and like I said, VESA>PCI>AGP1 were not "upgrades" either, you just had to buy a new board or live with old stuff)As was pointed out earlier in this thread by PC Surgeon, the videocards are not exceeding the 8xAGP bus yet so why make it impossible for 60-70% of the possible buyers to upgrade to the latest videocard?
:roll:You can trash your system and replace the cpu, mobo, and videocard set every 2 weeks if you want to but some people just want to be able to play games and enjoy their systems rather than tearing them down every week and running benchmarks to measure their e-penis.![]()
I guess if it's irrelevent, then 70% of the "market" (thats business code for people) is irrelevent too. So what you are saying is that what I said doesn't matter to gamers? Oh contrare mofrare! Look at how many have posted (who are gamers) that don't like the "industry's" (NVIDIA/ATI) so called "upgrade".
To end, NVIDIA/ATI will have thier way. Point. Blank. Period. We are under the thumb of "THE MAN"
Enjoy NVIDIA/ATI, you have done well to get fat off of us. MOOOOOOO!!!!
Just want to say I hope the video card makers produce more high end AGP cards as much as anyone here. But I think many people are over-estimating the importance of AGP market for those video card makers.
Yes it maybe true that ~60% to 70% of the "EXISTING" video card are AGP. But so what, it doesn't mean all those card will be upgraded to another AGP video card. You have to face it that people like us who upgrade computers are in the minority. Most people out there use their system until it is not usuable anymore and buy a new one. When they buy a new system, most of it comes with PCI-Express, especially the high-end system with big fat margin.
So in the end, those video card makers are more interested in making cards for new systems and companies like Dell, HP...etc. It doesn't really matter what us enthusiasts want because we are not a big enough market. So that 60%~70% of existing AGP market really doesn?t matter that much and I am afraid we will just going to see more and more PCI-E card only, especially in the high-end area.
