This will explain why FAH runs too slow on nvidia hardware.
While nvidia has full support for PS3.0, some fuctions (like branching) are implemented very poorly in typical nvidia style because no game uses it yet.
Just like the FX series supported DX9, the implementation was way inferior compared to the Radeon 9700/9800. But since almost no game used DX9, nvidia got away with it quiet easy.
The same thing is happening right now again.
And people wonder why the X1x00's are so much more complex.

The X1900 has always been a strong GPU. Another program that shows just how much more complicated instructions can be dealt with by an R580 was made by munky. Of course, I wonder how the upcoming G80's / R600's will handle this.

I just wonder if they're going to try adding SLI if they're thinking about CrossFire. I mean, one Nvidia GPU might not be able to handle this but what about two? Of course, they may just wait for G80 and not worry about adding current SLI support.

Yeah a big zero... you have to complete a work unit before it registers.. they take about a day to a week depening how fast core one has.. I don't have ATI anything let alone a 1900 so it will be slow

They use ATI 1900 only because they're the first ones to put 32 bit floating point hardware on their graphics card. The "issue" with nVidia's cards is that they don't have that capability. While the math can still be done on a nVidia card - the same way having a 32-bit CPU doesn't mean you can't process 64-bit variables - the processing overhead takes away much of the advantage. Development may be more complex, too.

The R580 core is a more complex design than the G71. It is one that balances games, physics, and better floating point / dynamic branching calculations.

You will want to monitor your temps as it runs your CPU\GPU at full, although with winter coming that could be a good thing.

Not yet. If you read the article... it says that they are doing the 1900 first and then will see where they can go with other ATI products.

As I have mentioned before, the GPU is not just for games. My Avid/Pinnacle video editor uses it and that is now being adopted by Sony and Adobe.

I haven't done F@H for a long time now, but I remember a GROMACs WU was better than P95TT for testing overclock stability too. I had OCs that passed P95TT for 8+hrs that would crash out in less than an hour with a GROMAC.

I'm a BOINCer, but damn I'm shocked how much faster the X1900 GPU is for his type of work over a cpu. If BOINC goes this route I'd be tempted to get an X1900 myself(eventually I will, or something of the next Gen from ATI), but as already mentioned I'd be somewhat concerned about the extra power consumption

I think I was given a very large WU for my first, so it's going to take a couple days. I'd like it to hurry up and complete so I can switch over to the GPU client.
