ATI Wins Xbox Deal

ATI Technologies Inc. said in a short statement that under the agreement with Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, it will develop custom, leading-edge graphics technologies for use in future Xbox products and services.

ATI did the graphics on the Gamecube and they didn't start churning out crap products. Hell, they produced their best offerings after the Nintendo deal.

That was all ArtX (remember, ATI acquired them AFTER most of the work on Gamecube had already been done...)

Nooooooo..... now my stock portfolio is going to the gutter. Thanks a lot ATI :disgust:. I was hoping that nVidia would get the deal, its stock price would rise enough, then I could dump it. I don't see that happening anytime soon now

I guess I should have learned my lesson from other tech stocks

If you read the whole article it sounds shady..."we're not certain this applies to chips"??? WTF?? Does this mean ATI will write drivers for Nvidia chips??!?

'Graphics technology' is all that's mentioned...for all we know this could be a version of their Rage Theater chip (isn't Xbox2 supposed to have HDTV tuner and PVR built-in??) 3D might still be handled by Nvidia, while video output is handled by ATI.

I know Nintendo announced they stopped production of their Game Cube a week ago. So I guess this allowed the door to open up for ATI.
