I recommend you re-read that press release. They temporarily halted production until the end of September to clear backed inventory of unsold products. Production will continue afterward.Originally posted by: Regs
I know Nintendo announced they stopped production of their Game Cube a week ago. So I guess this allowed the door to open up for ATI.Originally posted by: mchammer187
any news of ATI and nintendo? or does MSFT's contract exclude this kind of thing

FVCKING SWEET! DOWN WITH NVIDIA!
Maybe nVidia paid MS to sign the deal with ATI.Originally posted by: ViRGE
This may not be a very good thing for ATI. MS is a very difficult and cruel partner/master, Nvidia learned this first hand when they had piles of Xbox chips they couldn't sell, and were about to have to take a very large loss on the ordeal, only to be able to save their hides in arbitration. Console chips have been some of the lowest margin products out there, so if MS tries something similar on ATI, they could very well drive them in to the red.

no, theres a surplus of them at retailers and distributors so they're waiting for those to get sold
meaning no one's buying them.

Which is curious, considering Nintendo is still (barely) #2 globally in console sales, and still #1 in handheld sales.Originally posted by: Xionide

So true. Those things need to go the way of the dreamcast soon. Make nintendo a software company.

I thought Gamecube had the best looking games around, except most of their games don't match my palette or my age group. I was almost going to get one just for Resident Evil. But why buy from a company that screwed its fans over? (Capcom, blah!) .

It might sound good for ATI in the short term. Nvidia spent a lot of time designing the graphics chip for the XBOX, and get very little out of the deal. The deal brought some profit but also let ATI surpassed in the release of the Radeon 9700.
