ATI RV8xx yields better than RV740?

Is it a new name for paper launch? 🙂

Yep the good old hard launch is a thing for the rebadged these days.

Well, as long as they are up front about it, I guess it's ok. What I don't like are product launches with no availability. That's a load of BS.

Paper launch has always been a "tool" used by fanboys when attacking the "opposition." Let's be honest here, both ATI and nVidia have had numerous launches throughout their history that can be categorized as paper launches. Personally, if the launch is no more than a month after the public announcements and benchmark showings then I'm fine with it.

I have no issues with 'Pre-Launch' if it arrives when they say it will.

+1

I hate having to try and read a bunch of reviews and then fight for a video card on launch day. That's happened on numerous occasions. I'd prefer that Nvidia/ATI let review sites reveal all about a week before availability. That way I can research the card(s) and see if it's worth sitting in front of a computer looking for a good deal.

Looks like the ATI market gains may continue in quarter 3, early 4. This is another "report" that furthers claims of a November launch as BS. I had always heard late Sept, early Oct for availability so hopefully that continues.

This is killing me. My 4870 holds it's own and then some, but I'd really like to upgrade to a 1GB card now that I have this 1920x1200 res monitor. I cant' decide whether to pull the trigger on a 4890 now (their prices are quite reasonable for the performance you get) or wait since I'll probably want one of the new DX11 cards when they launch. Guess I could always just get both. 🙂

I agree because I have a 4870 which is holding it's own so I am waiting to see what ATI releases which supports DX11.

A friend is having the same internal turmoil but with a 4850. I think he may go crazy and turn to canabolism before he makes up his mind. Even though the 4850 still plays every game out there no problem at full 1680x1050 with highest quality detail, 2XAA and Vsync.
