It seems the 6600 is going to have serious competition ahead =D.

Will that have DDR3 memory just like the 6600 GT?

Yes, yes it will .

However, ATI's pricing seems a bit "off." If it retails for any more than the 6600GT, then the GT should clobber it in sales; they look to be very similar performing cards, except in Doom3, where the GF 6 series shines brightly.

Prices of those cards have been updated. The ATI card that was supposed to compete with the 6600gt has been priced at 199$us. I believe thats the x700xt at 199... Saw it on Tomshardware or HardOCP cant remember which.

***CONFIRMED***
ATI WILL DROP the price of the X700XT card to compete with Nvidia's $199 mark. The original price slated was $249.

You don?t have to be Einstein to learn that even 1000 marks faster in 3Dmark03 X700XT would have serious problems selling versus the slower but much cheaper Geforce 6600GT.

Now both Nvidia's and ATI's mainstream offerings will cost the same and it will be one hell of a fight.

The X700XT will remain a 128MB card only, while the X700PRO will come as a 256MB card, but clocked slower of course.

The launch date remains September 21st.

Why am I not surprised- the worse card has more RAM and suckers idiots into buying it. I wonder when we can expect an AGP version?

From the Enthusiast side, you could also look at it as forcing gamers to buy the $400 card to get a "proper" amount of video RAM for next gen games.

I just hope its not long for AGP parts.. Why PCI-e has been hyped so much right now is beyond me... The amount of PCI-e motherboards on the martket is so small I chardly see how it makes good business sence.

all this PCI-e exclusiveness seems to encourage forking over money to an intel system when it seems clear that the A64 is hands down the better gaming CPU

this sucks

The difference will be SLI. Even if they don't use it or it never actually works, the thought of buying another 6600GT down the line and nearly doubling performance has got to be a plus.

An AGP version of the card would be the wisest thing for ATi to do right now. They need to stem the tide of ATi users migrating from 9500/9700/9800's to 6800/6800GT. Of course they could just drop the price of the X800pro to a realistic price/performance ratio.

if SLI never happens it is more like you feel as if you've been ripped off depending upon the performance difference between the 6600GT and the X700XT, besides, you need a dual 16x PCI-e slot motherboard before even considering SLI as a bonus.

Either they need to bring us more PCI-e boards or the AGP versions of these cards, all this talk about how great they are is just tempting us with smell and never giving us the food to to actually taste.

Note the source. Also, i dont think this will be cut and dry over who is the winner. Nv's new core on the 6800 seems to keep up w/ the xt on any game w/ lower clocks. I really don't think the inq has any idea what they are talking about. Their confident, yet blind opinions tend to piss me off when i read them.

Who cares who wins? Quite amazing that they are even talking about 8k on 3dm03 for a mid range card. Sounds like they will be close enough that features will carry the day. Certainly is tempting at the suggested price and my next rig will be pci express probably. By this time next year, likely be paying a premium for agp boards.

I have one word for you: Dell. If you take a look at their systems, the only ones without PCe are the 2400 and 4600, which are currently being phased out and replaced by the 3000 and 4700.
(Not that I'd buy a Dell just for PCe.)

Dual 8x, not 16.

The Nforce 4 will run 2 cards in SLI at PCI-e 8x each.

VIA also has come up with a dual PCI-E x16 chipset. That supposedly works with socket 754, 939, and 940. It's up to the board makers as to what they will do with it though. Bottom line is that dual PCI-E x16 boards will be out soon. I'm just worried about the price.

nice benches pretty interesting .... looks like another win some lose some. but the x700pro wins hands down against the 6600-non gt, if these are the same price there will be no competition.

looking at the x700xt's 3d mark results.....58FPS for mother nature isnt half bad at all!!! in fact my 6800GT which has twice the pipelines only musters 60 odd FPS....ati really knows how to use shaders.

If your buying a PC from Dell and using it as your gaming machine you shoudl seek help.. Because you are spending 800$ to much.

Looks like pci express is coming and agp will soon be close to dead in the retail channels. Especially with mid range cards like this coming.

ati is stupid. all they have to do is drop x800pro prices to 250-275 and the war is over. nvidia is stupid too. GTs should be 250-275 as well. too many cards, too much confusing nomenclature.
