ATI Radeon 9800 PRO Missing 4 pipelines

I recently bought a 256bit ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB with the R360 core and the 2.5ns Hynix mem. It worked fine, and RivaTurner showed 8x1 pipelines. I then flashed it to a ATI 9800XT 256mb 2.5hynix bios. Everything was working fine. After a day or two, i turned on the computer and the drivers were gone (as in...windows detected a new video card [randomly out of the blue]). I reinstalled the drivers to find that the OVERDRIVE feature was gone and that RivaTuner showed only 4x1 pipeline...but it still showed it as a Radeon 9800XT. So I uninstalled all the drivers, and reflashed it back to the orginal backup 9800PRO bios and reinstalled the omega 4.8 cats...but it then shows up as a 9800SE!!!! with 4x1 pipelines. WTF? I tried flashing back and forth and i have no clue what's going on...Could it be the overheating of the core caused damage to the pipelines?? HELP???

sounds like a borked flash... enjoy your 9800SE@pro prices... I don't know much about flashing though so I could be wrong.

I'd have to agree with this assessment - I think your flash went belly up.

Flashing vid cards (or any flashing for that matter) is a risk.

Did you make a backup copy of YOUR original bios? Cause that's the way to get your card back to normal "maybe". If you did back yours up first before flashing and tried to restore it already with no luck, then I would say, yes, OwNzOrEd.

It's the other side of the coin. Ironic. Now you have a taste of what the video card company feels like when you get an XT when you pay them for a pro. You feel like you had something stolen from you.

Where did you buy your card from?

If you couldn't afford to bork the card then you definitly shouldn't have tried in the first place. I hope they catch your ass.

Piece of sh*t.

It's people like you who cause hardware prices to rise. If you wanted a 9800XT why didn't you buy a 9800XT? Returning that part is fraud, and I hope you get busted.

LOL you must be new here, not just a long time lurker. Its one thing to return the card, but its another to post your intentions to do so and get put in the same category as Hitler.

Oh jeeppers you?re bunyacked now. The is a special top secret chip on ATI cards, and when you try to get more out of the card than what you paid for (9800Pro --- > XT) the chip automatically downgrades you to a 9800SE as punishment.

And I wouldn?t try and return that card. That special chip has probably already notified the FBI and CIA too. A squat team is likely parked right outside now and as soon as you try to return that flashed card you will be arrested and your card confiscated.

Hahahahahahaha??.just Joking.:D

hahaha, i had the same dreams when pirated my first game. Quake 3...ahh good days. i still have those nightmares. how much is the fine btw?

anyway, do this, sell the card for the price of an SE, sell it to a sucker for 125-150. then buy the msi version for 200 bucks. that flashes to an XT guarenteed. so u payed 50 bucks and got the real XT. happy now?

and the squat team will have u benching all night long.

MSI version doesn't need to be flashed, it's already an XT, it's just underclocked to Pro speeds.

Flaming? You stated that you were going to commit fraud, are you retarded?

No fraud would lead to lower hardware prices for all of us honest folks, thanks a lot dipsh*t.

Huh? What does ati lose when someone overclocks their pro?

I think his point was that they lose they extra they would have made if the person had bought the XT instead of flashing a pro. Clearly they dont lose anything just by the overclocking.

They lose nothing. Just like Ford or Honda doesnt lose anything when someone rices up their car. You bought a card from them at a specific price. If they don't want you to turn it into something better then they should sell you that specific product, and not a high end product with a different name on the box. Theres no guarantee that an overclocker would buy a faster product if they couldnt overclock.

Appopin manufacturers 2 types of video cards. One mid high end, and one high end. He sells them for $200 and $300 respectively. After a while, he is wondering why none of his high end cards are selling even though they blow the mid high end card out of the water. He learns that people are only buying the mid-high end card and modding it to be the same as his high end version. So people are taking advantage of Appopin's design and getting high end cards for mid high end pricing. But Appopin is ok with this because he doesn't mind having all those high end cards on the shelf and not moving. He is fine with the fact that people are getting his high end card without paying him for the high end card. Sort of "stealing" from Appopin. If you don't get my point now, please tell me how I can explain it to you in a more fundamental way. Oh yeah:

I never know what the hell you mean with your dumb A$$ smiley faces appopin. It's like your skitzo or something. They are called emoticons for a reason. So I can tell when your joking, angry, sad, etc, etc.

Your "style" sucks and is confusing for someone trying to get the "feel" of what your talking about.

And the next time you so decide to say that I have "no point", why don't you just ask me if you didn't understand what it was?
