Snatched this from Rage3D.com:

0.15 micron technology
350 Mhz core speed
future 0.13 micron manufacturing process for 400 Mhz core speed
8 rendering pipelines textures processed per pipeline
800 Mhz DDR memory speed
12,6 GB/s bandwidth
2 TruForm processing units
HydraVision support
DirectX 9 support (PixelShader 2.0, displacement mapping...)

Yum 😀

Pixel fillrate 2.8 mil
Texel fillrate 8.4 mil

I think that should be billions. I think that the TNT had a higher fillrate than that.😉

<< When is comdex? >>

*Looks on in shock*
It, along with CeBit are the two largest computer trade shows in the world.
Your doing yourself a huge dis-service if you've never been to Comdex.
Comdex

Presumably that will be a tech announcement, or prerhaps full unveiling rather then actual release or mainstream availability. I wonder how long afterwards till' it's actual available in the DIY market.

The main Comdex is normally in the fall, so it looks like Sept 10th... wich means not before xmas.

Edit: I just saw that the source comes from an Italian site. To be taken with a grain of salt for sure. I'm was quite sure that we'd see the RV250 with 300 core first.

they have good driver support.

That card looks like a great one to get. Not sure what 2 Truform units could do, but I'm guessing we can start to see maybe a truform detail bar in games? Keep increasing the effects until it gets too slow.

support for 256bit memory is nice, wonder if the GF4 has that, being able to double your memory bandwidth may be useful.

That's well into Nvidia's 6 month product cycle, I wonder what Nvidia will debute at Comdex? I was hoping the R300 would be released sooner than Sept., deliveries of product will be far later than that I would suspect.

Well judging by the launch of the original Radeon core, and the Radeon 8XXX series ATi does tend to launch their next generation graphics cores a few months after nVidia (roughly 2 months or so), so this isnt too much of a surprise.

ATi's execution is terrible. They need to release their cards at least 1 month before Nvidia does, and have it working. None of these driver problems, or broken features. Not only do that have to announce it, they need to have shipping boards that work.

Also, I feel that ATi should stop producing boards based on their chipset. By outsourcing the chips to Hercules, Gigabyte, and DFI, etc, and still producing boards, they are competing with each other. Dropping the boards would allow them to put more resources into R&D and driver work. IMHO.

ATI already have manufacturering ability, they should just drop it? ATI isn't nvida, and I don't want them to be. Let them make their own boards, because I prefer to buy ATI right now, can't trust 2d on other vendors until some reviewers actually reviews things right.

When the 8500 was first release, they just switched to their new driver architure, it takes time to get things going from a switch like that, but I doubt you will see major problems with future drivers now that the system is fully in place.

I think the reason why ATI cant hit the nail on the head with drivers on their 8500 is because they had to rush the card out so fast. Personaly I think the problems are more hardware based than anyhting.

800 Mhz DDR memory speed, 12,6 GB/s bandwidth, 256 MB of memory

That one's a little hard to swallow though it will be amazing if it is true. Amazing and pricey.

My more immediate concern is seeing how the RV250 turns out.

If I'd have to wager a guess as to which Comdex, I'd say the Canadian Comdex in July, as Toronto is just a stone's throw away from ATi's Thornhill, Ontario headquarters.

But I read that ATi's CEO said they were no longer going to announce a product before it was ready for shipping, and I'm not sure that they could have the R300 "ready for primetime" as it were, by mid-July. That would mean R300 based boards would have to be made by early April for a decent 3 month testing and debugging period.

Yeah, this certainly looks great. Although I bet we won't see a shipping R300 until 2003. That's just a guess though, and not based on anything but ATi's past actions and other factors in general.

I wonder if NV30 will also be displayed at Comdex? Probably so, that is if it's going to be released in the Winter/Spring timeframe.

256 megs of memory! 800 mhz ddr! 12.6 gb/s bandwidth! That all sounds wonderful! But doesn't 256 at this point of time sorta sound like overkill? After all, 128 boards JUST came out

Still, sounds pretty sweet. I'd like to see how much it costs though

says support up to 256, they won't include 256megs of 800Mhz memory for normal cards, not competitive. They might for the FireGL cards.

<< I'm still waiting for games that support DX 8.xx features. >>

I know Comanche 4 fully supports all DX8 features, so does 4X4 EVO. So far as I'm aware those are the only game that implements full support.

Aquanox, Everquest: Shadows of Luclin, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, all offer partial support for some of DX8's advanced features.
Aquanox only offers support through manufacturer specific code paths though, so I believe it can't use DX8 effects on all cards that support DX8 features in hardware.

There are of course other games that use DX8 but don't utilize any of it's advanced features.
