I was actually about to sell my GT and buy a XT PE until I found out it would be virtually impossible to get one.
why were you gonna do that??

Through a friend of mine on eBay who had a shipment of 10 cards coming in but he has also received notice that the cards were discontinued for now (whatever that means). Also, last week some CompUSAs got XT PEs in, but unfortunately, my local store didn't get any.
ATI got kicked in the nuts this generation and instead of standing up and fighting, they tucked their tails and ran.

Yes, it's so unlike the 6800GT/U which can be found in volume at every Mom & Pop electronics store.

[There are shortages of items and manufacturing problems all of the time that hold things up, and paper launches are common everywhere, so what is the big deal here? It's not like this is the first time this has happened with video cards, or with many other items.

It doesn't even come close to compare Greig. eVGA and BFG sold thousands in the USA for MSRP. While the XT PE is getting sold on ebay for over a thousand dollars.

So you're saying that the 6800U (which is rival to the X800XT PE) which was launched 1 month earlier than the X800XT series can be found in large numbers, in stock, and at or below MSRP? I don't think so.
I think it's lame of BOTH companies to "launch" their cards so far in advance of significant production numbers. But let's be honest. They're BOTH guilty of it, not just ATI.
4 months and counting. This doesn't "happen all the time".
Blame ATI's stupid lack of foresight.Originally posted by: keysplayr2003

Neither ATI nor Nvidia are entirely to blame. If you really want to get angry at a certain company, direct your fury over to Samsung.
do people really take offense if they have to wait for a new product that is utterly and completely unnecessary?

And you're not comparing the same range of cards.
Thousands of X800 Pros have been sold. How many 6800 Ultras have been?

For those of you interested, ATI released a press statement saying that the card has NOT been discontinued.
