You know, with a MSRP of $399 for the top of the line 9700 Pro, will will most likely see them selling for ~$300-$350 range...that's an excellent price IMO. It might also mean sub $300 9700 non-pro's...🙂

ATI is tempting me too. I just have to hold back from getting the Radeon 9700 Pro. I am glad ATI is on time with shipping it out on August 19. Now all i have to see is how it does on different computer systems, the drivers, etc.

Me being the non-informed-on- ATI guy, I'll ask this question.

How will (theoretically) the 9700Pro compare with a GF4 TI 4600? Currently my GF3 64mb is humming along quite nicely (having a fast CPU helps) but I do plan on getting UT2K3 very soon and highly doubt I'll be able to play it at my preferred 1152x864 resolution.

I smell a videocard purchase sometime in the near future!

Michael...it will be a good deal faster than the GF4 Ti4600. Check out Anand's article on it.... 🙂

From the article..

By the time you read this, ATI still will not have decided on the clock speeds for the R300, but the card we tested was running at a core clock of 325MHz. Officially, ATI is shooting for above a 300MHz core clock and from our discussions with them it seems like they are realistically aiming for at least the 325MHz with which we tested.

My guess is Anand had the Pro, and the regular 9700 will be around the 300mhz core speed...🙂

325 MHz on .15u is outstanding......i wonder what they'll get on .13u

and for those who want to know but don't want to figure it out, 620 MHz DDR memory on a 256 bit memory bus yields 19.8 GB/s of bandwidth. that's a lotta bandwidth!!!

the product refresh of this card early next year should run on .13u at around 350 MHz with probably around 700 MHz DDR memory (22.4 GB/s of bandwidth). that will compete nicely with NV30.

ATI looks they might soon be taking back their market share crown.

Oh? I haven't heard any specs from NV30 yet...do you have any info on that? I definitely wouldn't mind shelling out for a .13 refresh of the 9700..yummm....time to lose this gf2 forever!

NV30 will destroy 9700 (Pro or not) but 9700 will be here sooner. If you need the absolute highest frame rates out there RIGHT NOW, the 9700 is the obvious choice. I'm very tempted, but my experience with the 8500 series was less than acceptable. I'll have to wait and see how the drivers are before even considering dropping that kind of cash on an ATi card.

When these cards hit the 250-ish mark, they're so mine (If not, the nv30 shall be!) How long do you guys think it'll take for them to drop to around 250?

As in wallop. Smack. Punch. How else can I put it? 😛 😀 🙂

Even if NV30 doesn't arrive with 1GHz Samsung DDR-II modules (which I fully expect it will) I'm looking for NV30 to KO 9700 by a significant margin. We'll see. 🙂

I think it's pretty obvious that the NV30 will be faster than the 9700.

I am going to give my money to ATI this time (9700PRO), hopefully I will not be disappointed.

hell yeh the nv 30 shud be faster than the 9700 going by nvidia's past efforts but the point is how much faster , it aint worth replacing a 399 dollar card for 10 friggin frames in quake 3 or watever , oh well but thatz just me

isnt it kinda stupid to compare the 9700 to the NV30?

The Ati card will be released this or next month and then nvidia will be lucky if they manage to release the nv30 this year. From now to the releasedate of the NV30 they have a full lineup waiting of 8x AGP versions of their current Geforce4 cards.
