Exactly. Their auction says "This system is configured with two of the new ATI 4870x2 video cards available for us to ship after August 12th 2008. ". Not ON Aug 12, but AFTER Aug 12. So they get people to pony up a bunch of cash on pre-ordered 4870X2 systems, then pick up the cards on/after Aug 12th and ship the systems. ANYBODY can do that.

As far as I can tell, they're simply trying to get a jump on other system resellers. Now if they actually had a picture showing the cards along with a little sign saying "shipit!store", then I would believe that they actually have them in stock right now.

@Creig: Yep, you called it right. Those guys just want to get their hands on your money. Oh sure, they'll ship your system "after 12 August." That could be September or October.

NO ship date specified means they are within their legal rights AFA EBay is concerned. Caveat Emptor.

@unr3al - I have 8800GTS 512MB G92 it's in my signature and yes there are some old games that stutter with this card. With some adjustment they're a lot better, but I'm not completely happy.

@dasracht - Let's hope AMD/ATI had enough time to build up supply, that way prices doesn't go up.

@Creig - Most are saying the 12 or 13th. The slides with the tomshardware logo say the 12th. Still doesn't matter becauses if there's not enough supply, then people are still going to have to wait longer.

Regarding the Ebay Store I doubt anyone here is going to spend $9,000 on their PC anyway. Most of us are looking at $500 price tag on a 4870x2 from neweegg, zzf, microcenter, tigerdirect, frys ..... At least that's what I'm doing.

Question!!

Some of thes questions will be answered already but even if:

2 X 4870X2's vs
3X 8800 ultra's (tri sli)
2 X 280 GTX's

What would come on top?

Also I hear that crysis crossfirex isnt up to what ATI wants it to be and will be enhanced with future drivers.

I know taht all the 4870x2's are all right now ES, and not WHQL drivers. but any opinions?

Going on early reviews 2x4870x2 is faster than 3xultras, and 2x280s.

Just a side note: You would need a 1Kw powersupply to run two HD4870X2's. You might be able to get away with a quality 800w+ unit, but I wouldn't push it.

Just something to think about. :)

Back OT: The X2 will be released soon and so will the 8.8 Catalysts which have hopefully been optimized for the X2 with lots of XFire game profiles. Here's to hope.

If you have the raw performance of the HD4870X2, why would you need two? But the GTX280 isn't exactly economic either, plus it sometimes performs even worse in SLi than a single HD4870X2. So if you must have two HD4870X2's, I don't really see the problem. Okay so your electricity bill might skyrocket after the venture but imagine what 3 GTX280's would do... And that's what you'll need to get the same performance (if you're lucky) as two HD4870X2's! And the initial price... Omg

Well supposedly 3 8800 ultras got beat out by 2 3870x2's and definitely 2 9800gx2's (which I guess is like 4 8800 gt's)
but I think 280GTX SLI beat 3 8800 ultras.
It seems on everything I see- only Crysis is the weak spot. And thats only on Quad CF.

PCGH proved nothing -- all they proved was that the card stutters when you lower its FPS to the 25 range, which is a big no duh

But stuttering != microstuttering

Whether it stutters or not, playing at 25FPS is a far from enjoyable for me personally.

When your games start dipping into 25FPS range its probably a sign to upgrade. Stuttering at 45FPS is a different story though.

I assume that once the 4870x2 gets released, the price of a 4870 will drop. Now if two 4870 will be cheaper than one 4870, will it be worth it to get two 4870 instead? I wonder which setup would be faster.

^^^^^

I wouldn't expect much of price drop. Here's what I'm expecting as 4870 512mb is about $240 with rebates now.

2GB 4870x2 = $500
1GB 4870 = $250 - 275
512MB 4870 = $200 - 225

@Dkcode - Micro-stutter is a concern for most. It will also be good to see how AMD/ATI handles making crysis work with this card, as their currently not happy with it's performance. If they make Crysis work properly then there's great chance that other lower FPS titles will work fine as well. Either way it's good that people expect this to be a problem in the future, but at the same token it's a little early to jump the gun.

UT3 was also tested for microstutter and didn't record and frame drops.

Its a step in the right direction.

ATI seem very keen on getting multi GPU technology right.

yah its part of their plan for the next 3 gpu revision cycles

rv670, rv770, rv870, rv970 will all have multi-gpu variants, something new supposedly happens in r10x generation
