that's not the slowest performing motherboard ...
the PE chipset is very good ... almost as fast as GB ... and same price range as the nForce

Well, the "benchmark" you are referring to is just one observation by theinquirer. The entire reference to that "test" is: "The firm also had two systems side by side. One had an Athlon 64 3000+ inside, the other an Intel 3.06GHz CPU. Aside from the chipsets/motherboards, the Nforce 2 and the 845PE respectively, the machines were identically configured. The boys ran Intel's Photoshop hyperthreading script, and the AMD box finished in 1500ms compared to the Intel's 1700ms."

Ummm.... Am I misunderstanding something or are they talking about milliseconds?

At any rate, it's hardly anything validated. I certainly wouldn't bank on any simple observation from theinquirer.

oh..is at the inquirer ... but no big deal ..there are just comparing both processor on nforce2 and 845pe chipset I thought they are comparing athlon 64 with itanium :p
One benchmark, hand selected by AMD, doesn't give much info. And they used the fastest performing AMD motherboard with one of the slowest Intel motherboards. So for those reasons, I think we need more information before we can come to any conclusions. Plus by the time the Athlon 64 is released, the Intel 3.06 GHz will be nearly 1 year old, certainly not award worthy yet. However if they truely get the 4400+ out in the beginning of 2004, that will easily dominate over Intel, and will definately deserve an award. However many people are skeptical that AMD will have .09 micron working so quickly.
They will be releasing the 1.4-1.8ghz (below expectated speeds) Opterons in a few weeks, and the Clawhammer won't debut until at least September (much later than expected)... Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing .09µ, or "4400+" speeds, at the beginning of Q4.

Based on what Anandtech reported, the Inquirer confused two distinct demonstrations, one which was an Athlon 64 laptop, another which was a comparison between a 3000+ Athlon XP and a 3.06 GHz P4.

Ah... Good catch Sohcan. Heh, I guess the fact that they were using a nForce2 should've been the first clue.
