Adul is not joking. It won "Best PC Processor of 2002".

Also, the GeForce FX won "Best Graphics Processor of 2002". (No, I'm not joking.)

Btw, it was the Fourth Annual Analysts' Choice Awards, and the award winners were selected by In-Stat/MDR's technology analysts.

processors (CPU or GPU) that aren't available should not be considered.

They awarded the same title in 2001 to the P4 Northwood, when it wasn't even released..... I agree in the fact that unavailable parts should not be given such award

If I recall it correctly, the list is

1999 - Athlon (classic, slot A, 0.25 & 0.18, off die 512 K L2 cache)
2000 - Athlon (Tbird, 256 on die L2 cache)
2001 - P4 Northwood (should have been Athlon XP)
2002 - Athlon 64 clawhammer (should have been P4 northwood)
2003 - ?? (This should have been for the Athlon 64....)

"There Is Method To The Madness Per the AMD press release:

"The AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor has won the Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice for Best PC Processor at the prestigious Microprocessor Report's Analysts' Choice Awards 2002."

Now before you laugh your guts out, and/or regard Microprocessor Report as a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMD, these folks do make a habit of handing awards for things the rest of us haven't seen yet.

For instance, Intel's hyperthreading team got an award in 2001 for their work.

So if you think they're nuts, at least they're evenly nuts. :) "

I wonder if I can win that award with my up and coming CPU.

The Quantaflux SD7500+ will completely destroy everything else once it hits retail(availability later in 2003).

Now gimme the prize! :p

My God! Maybe they'll start handing out Oscar's based on a movie's script or its cast! No need for them to finish it or release it! Just get a set together with some big-name actors and rake in the hardware! :Q

Isn't that illegal or something...unfair competition if its rigged :p

Btw, isn't the Pentium4 a 64bit proccessor so Intel got there first...I think (my Intel knowledge is very small but I'm trying to build it...anyone care to help me out here?)

Besides, they were pro-nvidia by voting the geforcefx so we know its completely false ;)

Then what is the difference between it and the a64?

Isn't the athlon64 also 32bits extended to 64?

the p4 isn't 32 bit extended into anything. its 32 bit only. the athlon 64 is a 64/32 bit processor. intel's itanium is a 64 bit processor, and is supposed to run the 32 bit stuff as well but its rather awful at that.

Well, it can easily be argued that the Clawhammer isn't a true 64-bit processor, especially since it cannot address more than 4gb of memory.

WHOOHOO! Intel can grovel at the far side of the universe while AMD swarms over the land pillaging all the measly P3s and keeping P4s as servants in their huge 64-Bit palaces! BUAHAHHA! BUAHAHHA! AMD fans rejoice, Intel will suffer.

Sorry...my evil side just come out. But AMD does rock and I am glad to see them gain some recognition.
