Not sure if there's a thread for this already but I was looking for suggestions on a workout playlist ... I'm down with anything.

I'm not going to pirate the music, either gonna use grooveshark or queue them up on youtube!

I've been listening to the new cd's from

Throwdown
Avenged Sevenfold
Fear Factory
As I Lay Dying
Hatebreed
Kingdom of Sorrow

Typically, I work out with no music. Some people rely on it too much. I like being used to working without it. It helps me connect with where my exertion level is at. I'd like to use music every one in a while, but my iPod is being iffy lately as well.

I listen to Disturbed's album The Sickness when I run. I usually don't listen to anything when I lift.

Love some metal when working out. Metallica, Disturbed, Mudvayne, Korn. Rap gets me pumped too. Eminem, Tupac, Bone. Love 80's music too when working out. 80's music just has this upbeat feeling to it. Need the soundtracks to Rocky and Van Dammes movies.

Same here. However, I now listen to music because it stops others from talking to me.

I love exercising and I enjoy listening to music while doing it. Not afraid of any exercise and music is not a crutch for me. I just like jamming out while I work out.

No. They still talk to you when they clearly see you have buds in your ears. This I can't understand.

Just started listening to a mp3 the last couple of months during cardio. Old rock.

npr podcasts
"going the distance" - bill conti (rocky soundtrack)
coheed and cambria (first and second album songs only)
circa survive
"barbarian horde" - hans zimmer (gladiator soundtrack)
metric
"service bell" - feist and grizzly bear
darkest hour
it dies today

A friend of mine runs marathons; a 25k is a regular thing for her. When she was starting out however, she always ran with audio, mentally gauging mile markers by which part of a playlist she was listening to. It didn't occur to her that most official marathon's don't allow personal audio devices and she didn't learn this until the day of her first event. Though she finished, her time was completely shot and she didn't enjoy one leg of the race.

I committed to one year of health improvement sans personal audio so that my routine wouldn't be affected if I didn't have my ipod or if a battery died. Not that I was worried about a player making or breaking my workout but I wanted to learn my body and I didn't want any distractions. Now I enjoy music from time to time, when I need a bump or if I'm not feeling social at the gym.

Mix of Hard Rock when wanting a push.
Mix of Contemporary when wanting to zone.

A great benefit that I've recently taken up though is catching up on news, tech, learning and various brain stretching podcasts, especially during cardio. Exercise the body and the brain in the same time space = Double Rainbow!
