I did BW+270 back in college. Only BW+180 today. No video.

/Herbot

But, hey, come on that wasn't that impressive, after all there's guys at your gym that can do BW+400. We just don't understand that football players are genetic freaks and we aren't.

Hm, I currently don't have access to a dip belt, so this will be a bit tough. Not sure I'll have an "official" entry in this competition, but for fun, I might see how many reps I can get with two 50lb KB's hanging from my feet and then using a calculator to estimate my 1RM.

Hmmmm...I'm out for a few weeks...can't load the shoulder so thats gash...

270lbs?! Thats f0cking insane...you MUST have nearly been able to do a 1arm pull up? 180lbs is very impressive still!

My PB was 40kg a few years back so I'm hoping for at least that if not a bit more...

you could grip a dumbell between your feet. That's how I used to do it

It's very uncomfortable to do that with DB's over 100lbs. Moreover, my gym's DB's go up to 120, but I can do a pull-up with more than that, so even the DB approach would require multiple reps.

Speaking of which, I did some eccentrics and aided one-armed pullups in anticipation for this competition. Maybe by the end of July, I'll actually be able to reach that goal. Last I checked, my 1RM chinup was BW+90 at 150lbs of body weight. Just gotta work on it :)

Nice job, MrMatt. Way to start off the competition.

So let me get this straight. You did your entire body weight + 205 pounds for a total of 413lbs? Video or shens. Surely this means you could easily learn how to balance your body for a one-arm chinup. If you can chin double body weight, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do a one-arm chin.

I have a feeling we're all starting to get duped with the Herbots of the forum. How about anything over +50% bodyweight needs to come with a video?

Lol, post a video and we'll figure out who the noob is. I'm gonna go ahead and say that even those that are strong can't typically do 2xBW chinups. It's mainly gymnasts (who weigh much less than 200lbs) who accomplish that feat. And fancy that, someone who doesn't post at all walks into the H&F forums just as the competition comes up. All you need is the black guy avatar and your persona as a troll would be complete.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone on youtube or anywhere do a chin up with anything over 180lbs+ let alone 205lbs! That is a RIDICULOUS amount of weight to do a chin up with from a dead hang.

Even if he could do about that amount, it's no gurantee of a one arm pull up. He may or may not be able to do it. I'm sure if we got guys that could do 1arm chin ups that they would be still off a 1x bw weighted chin up or so.

Solid entries MrMatt.

And yes the issue with a virtual comp is no one is liable to anything minus a video, but thats the risk we take in running something like this.

you are correct, I have tried a 1 arm chin-up before but could not do it(even though I have pretty strong arms too, I can rep out with easy curl bar + 2 X 45's for 31 reps), got close though. But I also tried it without having my other arm hold and assist me.

here is someone with 208

I could get up higher than that, sorry I have no access to a video camera

*********hey guys, I want to apologize I wasn't trolling, I just got confused with the weight I used for dips vs. pull-ups. I went to the gym this morning and realized I was confusing the 2(I mix in 100's with the 45's). So I changed my stats to 180lbs.*********

My bad

For the record: chin-up implies that the chin actually gets over the bar. This guy does not. Also, are we allowing kipping (or frog kicks or whatever the hell this dude is doing) or are we doing strict pull-ups?

Don't you have to swing to do a kipping pullup? The rules say dead hang, so I would say no to them.

"Kipping" just implies that you are using your lower body to help the motion by quickly popping open your hips. The guy in this video is using a frog kick type motion, but there are many ways to do it. It can definitely be done from a dead hang, as the "swinging" is mostly used to chain multiple reps together.

So the question remains are we doing strict, upper body only pull-ups, or are we allowing any sort of lower body involvement via kicking/kipping/whatever?

kind of off topic, but are 1 arm chin ups really known to be that hard?

i can do one easily. not sure how many in a row i can do. i've done 2 in a row before.

not sure if i did them 100% correct, but i started from a dead hang, with my left arm holding onto the bar, and my right hand around my left wrist.

I can do those easy...you are still able to draw from both sides when you do this. What is far more difficult is to just do it with one hand - off hand not gripping anything. Back when I did rock climbing, I weighed less (~145) and was far more conditioned to that sort of thing. I could do one or two then. Definitely not anymore.
