lol, amen to that! The problem is, in a country founded by people who wanted church and state to be exist seperately, agnostics and atheists have been completely bombarded by pretty much every religion but judeaism and muslim. lol funny way thing work out.

I've always found it impossible to resolve the issue of human consciousness so I guess I have to say agnostic. However, I find myself almost always arguing for athiesm as I find most of religion illogical.

I was joking about the mormons. My parents are friends with a mormon couple; them seem like alright folks, though Mormonism is definitely not for me (no caffeine and special underwear? yech).
I'm an atheist, and for many reasons, though I'll try to keep it short...

I can see, very clearly, how religion has interacted with our species through the years, in every aspect in which it's involved. I see how it was necessary for us to come together to form societies and civilizations, and how it has become ingrained in us as a genetic trait, due to the societies it helped to create giving us a much higher quality of life, higher chance of procreation, and higher life expectancy; how it helped us deal with the loss of loved ones and with trying circumstances the dice of life can throw at us; how it explains what we don't understand, how it appeases the desires of sentience to keep busy and have a purpose.

i just despise formal ritual crap. much of religious claims dont make sense to me, at least as far as the ones i have been exposed to go.
its not like i am in complete denial there could be a supreme being (could be some aliens, who knows), but no one has given me any convicing evidence of such.
"oh God must exist, you cant prove he doesnt" crap doesnt cut it for me

I am an atheist because I see no reason to "need" a "God" (I'll capitalize it out of respect for religious folk). Essentially, the trend in the past was for people to use God(s) to explain unknown phenomena. As science uncovered more and more, the belief in these gods diminished and eventually shunned (death of polytheism). At this point God is meant to explain the greatest mystery of our time--our own existence. While there is obviously more to God and religion than just explaining mysteries, the other aspects, such as defining proper behavior, building tradition, and "giving hope" (a broad term that I'll leave as is), I feel I can find those in my life without God or a religion of any sort. To me, science defines all and I do not need some nebulous entity to fill in the blanks. Science has eliminated God(s) before (as seen in ancient religions) and I feel that it can be used to explain that which is attributed to the work of God now. Of course you may now think that my belief in science is no different than my belief in God. Perhaps so, but I think a belief in science is considerably more fact-based and less faith-based since I do not assume anything about what we do not know, only that it can known, or at the very least talked about.
I am agnostic simply because I need proof in order to believe in something. It's not a decision I made; it is simply how I am. I used to be atheist, but then I realized my philosophy also rejected things like the big bang and evolution, so I realized I was agnostic.
Simply put, until I see definitive proof of a god, there is no reason for me to believe in it. I don't "feel" a presence or anything, and I don't think that everyone is here for a purpose. When I look at life, I see the reult of nothing more than a game of chance in which we are lucky. I don't see intelligent design; I see hobbled-together systems that work out of necessity and chance. Still, I don't necessarily believe in the big bang or evolution, as there is a lack of proof there too. I aceept evolution as more likely true than intelligent design, but I certainly don't believe in it 100%.

I firmly believe that, in the vastness of space, there is other sentient life. Odds simply favor it. There are an estimated ~150 billion galaxies, each with billions or trillions of stars, most capable of supporting life as we know it. Whether they've visited us is open for debate, but that they're out there is a given, IMO.
