I don't mind the suggested flying mount changes. Since flying amounts and queuing into every instance/event was added, the 'world' feel kind of dissolved. Back when I was playing, I would either 1) fly do a destination a mile off the ground, or 2) queue from SW.

yeah, I don't get the mass qq over not being able to fly either. I thought leveling in MoP was so much more enjoyable than Cat because of it.

the cat's out of the bag now, but I almost wished they'd never allowed flying mounts to leave Outlands.

Not sure i'd go that far but i'm fine with delaying access to flyers in WoD until 100 at least. As many proponents of this idea have said, flying mounts tend to spoil the mystery and exploration factors.

So since I'm starting on a new server now (basically, have a 90 paladin there but no gold or heirlooms or useful low-level things), what are everyone's thoughts on professions? Over the past few days, I've found out quite quickly that high-pop servers are expensive when you're buying literally everything you need (gems, enchants, etc).

I'm planning on five, maybe six characters at most on the new server (not the whole 11). I'd like to position myself well for WoD, but prefer to have as many miners as possible because IMO it's the most profitable gathering profession.

Have already:
90 Paladin (Tauren) -- 525 Mining / 158 Blacksmithing (for belt buckles, starter pvp plate, shields, etc)

Thinking of the doing the following:
*Mage (Goblin) - Mining / Jewelcrafting (for gems and whatever else they come up with)
*Priest (Goblin) - Mining / Tailoring (for bags, cloth transmutes, leg armors if they still exist in WoD)
*Rogue (UD) - Herbalism / Inscription (for glyphs and Darkmoon cards, shoulder enchants if they still exist in WoD)
*Warrior (Orc) - Herbalism / Alchemy (transmute spec, because high $ / time)

Possible, but if I had to guess, unlikely:
Hunter (Orc) - Skinning / Leatherworking (for leg enchants)

The glaring hole is enchanting, but I'm guessing I'm better off having a mining character, at least while leveling. Otherwise, how's it look?

For the missing classes, my alliance monk is 70 and I don't care for it. My DK, warlock, druid, and shaman I've been leveling just to level and gain access to their professions, but don't really enjoy actually playing them.

i do understand, but reading up and knowing the fight, well its like reading the end of a book first.. I'm here to play, not follow an instruction manual. No doubt doing the same old crap 200 times is taxing with a new player. But to the new player its like his first trip to Disney land, he wants to see it all, sure on the 20th trip he don't care, but that first trip is the fun.

I will make it.. its really the rush that is annoying, and im not talking fast, im talking "NO loot, we did this 30 time and have millions of gold, you noobs starting over, screw ya, go farm that crap solo when your 60".. and what has really changed the most? people have ZERO respect, i cannot believe how vile it gets if things go bad, or slow. I almost prefer the Tank or heals just dropping (wasn't the LFG tool supposed to penalize this somehow?) but its some vile crap then dropping. To be fair most often nobody says anything.. so the vile stuff is only about 25%.

Im just to old school i think, never had a problem helping a slow learner, never had a problem letting them explore all corners of map.. never had a net to read every thing about something before I did it..I guess I'm the problem 🙂 I will get over it Im sure. And right know feel like i need to stop, its no where near as bad As I'm making it sound, but it can be on occasion.

I totally understand - on one of my WoW resubs before MoP I quit within a month mainly because there was no patience and a bad attitude from anyone in the dungeons. Resubbed again I've had some better luck this time around - what level are you at? At 90 heroics are a near pointless mash through in 15 minutes - even if you don't know the fights it doesn't matter since basically the tank and the healer can handle it. I have an 85 BE paladin and have had way more fun healing with him in cata heroics than the 90 dungeons with my warrior. Even in the cata heroics a full wipe brought no complaints; ppl just ressed and went on with it.

honestly, I like having an enchanting alt so much I'd be hard-pressed to live without it. it's really nice to be able to disenchant BoE trash items and be able to make my own enchants rather than try my luck on the AH or spam Org.

I've been leveling up my Death Knight as mining/skinning, but once I hit 90 I think I'm going to drop skinning for enchanting (my current (dis)enchanter is my rogue, but DK's are so great at solo runs I feel like it would make more sense for that character to be able to disenchant gear)

is it true that they changed it so that you can put any enchantment on heirlooms? one of the reason I kept my rogue as an enchanter for long was because he could do crusader / fiery weapon / lifestealing (along with the various MC/AQ20 enchants) and I didn't feel like having to re-farm the recipes... is LS even in the game anymore after they revamped Scholo?

I know what you mean, but it's just not very profitable. It's definitely convenient though. My main / first character is and always has been an enchanter, so until now I've never had to deal with not having one.

Vendoring the gear is often worth more than the old enchanting materials, at least in my experience. Even current content, I've been just taking the gear and vendoring and coming out ahead of what I would have gotten by disenchanting.

Couldn't tell you. I have the +15 or +20 agility (I forget, whichever can be on level 1 items), or crusader, or +30 spell power on the appropriate heirlooms.

The anti-no flying crowd getting even louder. Will be interesting to see if they change anything.

Blue also has made a post saying current arena ladders aren't going away. In it they make a comment that thy don't know why anyone would think that. And while it wasn't explicitly stated as such during the Trials announcement, it did in fact sound like they were very much implying that this was to be the result of the change.

I like the "no flying while leveling" thing -- I really do. However, the "no flying until 6.1" idea ..... eh. I'm not super unhappy about it, but it just means I probably won't be maxing my blacksmithing/engineering/jewelcrafting because I'd have to farm ore on a land-mount that moves at 1/3 the speed. I don't think so, it can wait.

I think there should be a middle ground -- add it immediately available at 100, but maybe after a quest chain that takes you through a few heroic dungeons and a scenario or something. Think along the lines of the paladin/warlock mount quests back in the day, just less long and less expensive. Then once you have it on your main, the cold weather flying tome was good, just do that again.

I wish.

I believe that's why most are complaining. It's in the game already, been there a long time, you've made us spend a considerable amount of gold to fully utilize it, and now you think we'd be better off without it for what many would considered vague reasons.

I just like being able to mount and fly up a bit when I go afk. And it makes mining a hell of a lot easier.

If you are using XP, there is some bug with the new launcher app preventing games from starting. They have details on how to bypass the problem till they patch it on the website.

Another example of how wrath did it right. I hope they don't cave on this flying issue, ground questing is far more immersive. Flying made questing trivial in cata, dive bombing mobs gets old real fast

of course, the Cold Weather Flying Tome wasn't actually introduced until 3.2...

and that only made it easy to give lower level alts flight in the region. Your regular char just had to do the quest and buy the skill, nothing delayed about it.

But I do still lol @ the blizzcon cata announcement when guys started shouting does this mean we'll need warm weather flying.

finally hit 90 on my DK today... Timeless Isle kicked my ass in my green questing gear, though.

best I could do was try to run around the elites and maybe take on 1 of the non-elites, but couldn't really get anywhere near to where I had to for the first quest. I'm guessing I should at least run enough heroics until I'm ready to queue for LFR.

Scenarios are insta queues, can do those and a couple heroic dungeon runs. At this point no one is needed anything so you should be easily able to get a mostly blue outfit there quickly.

All you have to do on the rare mobs is hit them once and you'll get loot. In quest gear, you should be able to get to most chests, even if you have to corpse hop to a few of them (the one in the very back at the top of the ramp/hill comes to mind). Just keep up your frost chains thing handy, and the freeze one (I really need to play my DK for a refresher apparently). You should be able to gear up pretty quickly, then once you can get into HoF and ToES LFR, you'll probably get close to a full set of 483 in just one run. As an example, I got 8 pieces of 483 gear this week on my rogue.

amazing how different Timeless Isle is during prime-time as opposed to in the late morning/early afternoon hours.

zoned in around 6:30 pm, killed 2 rares as soon as I hopped off the flight path, and managed to ride around collecting like 3 chests. got my ilevel up from like 430 to 461.

edit: I now understand why the one gearing up guide I read suggested ignoring heroics entirely... spent 2 hours on Timeless Isle during primetime and ran the first part of the first LFR and I'm already at ilevel 476... shame about my 429 weapon, though. >< and I still gotta do the dailies to rep up with the Prince... I'm just trying to resist the temptation of spending 20k gold on the Lionheart weapon.

I've got the old school plans and weapon on my Paladin, but that does my DK no good at the transmog shop.

The account bound cold weather flying time in Wrath was not there at the start if the expansion. Not flying until 77 was why I played zero alts during Wrath until after the time was released.

My favorite leveling was Cataclysm due to flying. I have already paid a massive amount of gold for flying and they are taking it away again. I hope the people against this complain extremely loud on their forums.

Flying is in the game, they need to quit taking it out for stupid reasons. I disliked all the isle crap due to taking out the ability to fly there. I am begrudgingly rep grinding the timeless isle. Once that is done, I have zero plans to go back there due to not being able to fly.

Timeless Isle is actually making me think about faction transferring back to Alliance.

the A:H ratio on my server is about 4:1 and it sounds like future world bosses/rare mobs will be locked in a similar way (where you'll get credit for the kill but only if it's tagged by your faction). the only reason I changed over to Horde was for a guild, but they've since disbanded.

gotta think of a good female dwarf death knight name, though.
