yeah it should be interesting. though it looks like the 3rd xpack in a row that is horde based.

The Draenei haven't had a lot of story in previous expansions, but this one gives the team a chance to look at who they were before the Draenei we know today.

While i enjoy that we get a space goat backstory the fact that Garrosh escapes kinda pisses me off.

if you haven't been reading the blizzcon thread, here is one of the most interesting tidbit post:

added an ingame function similar to oqueue/open raid.

also giving bonus valor if you group with friends and run a dungeon/raid. this bonus buff will also apply if a group of non-"friend" did a dungeon and stay requeue after the first one.

giving incremental bonuses to spells from 91-100.

hit & expertise gone.

dodge & parry gone.

reforge gone.

fewer enchants.

less items with gem slots. no socket bonus or meta gems.

instead of having STR or INT plate drop, an armor type will drop and the primary spec will depend on your current spec, changing as you change spec.

armor becomes tanking stat.

DURABILITY REMOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

adding tertiary stats, similar to some diablo gear. (+speed, lifesteal, cleave etc...)

and as I guessed earlier item squish is coming.

something I forgot to mention earlier for the new flex raid aspect, instead of having hard numbers so people try to find "the sweet spot", instead of having an ability increase from say 14 to 15 people, it will have percentage chance of occurring based on how many people are there, so if you were at 14 you'd have an 80% chance of the minor ability and %20 of the major, and at 15 it would be reversed to equalize the occurrence over duration of the encounter.

The phasing tech will be improved for WOD, so when you look at your garrison from a distance you will be able to see how you have it laid out vice the farm today where you don't see your crops until on top of them.

looks really interesting.

it's hard for me to find time for WoW nowadays (on a given week, I've got 2, maybe 3 nights free to play games, and half that time I'd rather just lay on the couch, stare at the TV, and let my brain rest), but some of that stuff has me tempted.

this is tempting, I was bored during cataclysm and skipped MoP, not sure if its enough to bring me back. With the money and power that blizzard has why haven't we seen significant headway on a new mmo?

I played WoD at Blizzcon.

Item squish is already in game. Hitting for about 800 ish damage at level 90.

Did the Alliance starting zone. Dreanai artwork is heavily from BC. You start in Shadowmoon. The first quests get you off going quick. They are also putting in a lot of scripted destructive environments.

One of the first dungeons happens in Frostfire fighting Ogres. Pretty easy with RF gear.

Ran out of time at that point.

item squish will be done in a series of levels. Pretty much at every release point, they'll be toning down at that point (i.e. 60, 70, 80, etc...)

so, on a semi-whim (based on Blizzcon sparking my interest), I re-sub'd today... had a gift card with nothing else to use it on, so I picked up a game card (figure with a time card, I won't get sucked into forgetting to cancel my sub before it auto-renews).

any advice on how long it may take to gear up from a fresh 90 to being able to at least run the 5.4 LFR's?

with limited playtime and no guild, I'm debating if I want to:

-pick my level 90 back up (shaman, well-geared as of 5.2, at least) to run the new content
-level up one of my higher-levels and restart level 90 endgame content from scratch (probably either my DK, warlock, or s-priest)
-level up a monk

If you read up on timeless isle gear getting while queue for heroic dungeons/pre 5.4 raids, you should be able to do it in a weekend.

having thoughts about resubbing for WoD, hoping to get panda in a sale soon, will have to level something from scratch or maybe pick up my original hunter again, or one of the classes i left at 70

They had panda on sale like 2 months ago. Should have picked it up for later, though with turkey day almost here and WoW titles being one of the few still stocked in store imagine someone will have it then.

I suggest to wait for Black Friday as well. I got my MoP copy at Amazon in last year's Thanksgiving sale for $15. So if you've been waiting for a sale on this, don't pay more than that 🙂

hit & expertise gone.

I can't imagine people will miss those stats.

dodge & parry gone.

Will those stats go back to agility like the old days? Does a tank have anything different to focus on than a plate wearing DPS? Or do they just pile on strength and crit and let the healer worry about keeping them up?

That seems kinda like a kick in the crotch to enchanters and jewelcrafters.

instead of having STR or INT plate drop, an armor type will drop and the primary spec will depend on your current spec, changing as you change spec.

I won't miss my enhancement/restoration shaman having to carry a bag full of separate gear...

armor becomes tanking stat.

What does that mean? Back to my question above, does that mean the tank is nothing more than the guy in plate who has the healers focus? Sounds like the build will be exactly the same for a plate tank and a plate DPS.

DURABILITY REMOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better hurry up and get that 50,000g on repairs achievement done now. 😛

adding tertiary stats, similar to some diablo gear. (+speed, lifesteal, cleave etc...)

Those sound fun.

and as I guessed earlier item squish is coming.

The only concern there is the ability to go back and wtfpwn old content, solo or small group. Right now my daughter and I are having fun duoing classic/BC heroic dungeons and raids to collect cool looking gear for transmog. We got the first Windseeker bindings piece on her first run through MC, LOL. 😛

The only thing that makes that possible is the massive stat inflation at later levels. I can understand them wanting to get that inflation under control, but I hope at the same time they can open up the dungeon finder a little bit, so that you can use it to find dungeon/raid groups at a wider range of levels. I could be way off, but the way people blow through levels now to get to the latest content, won't an "item squish" mean that nobody ever does old heroic/raid content?

I assume that if item squishing works correctly (granted, big assumption), there shouldn't be any impact outside of seeing smaller numbers on the screen.

Dodge/parry aren't gone, just gone from gear. Agi gives dodge for leather, str gives parry for plate. Crit, haste, mastery are tank stats depending on spec. Haste for example gives prot paladins more holy power-> more active mitigation.

Sounds like the build will be exactly the same for a plate tank and a plate DPS.
Maybe yes/maybe no. Build is more about what tweaks to your class do you want for a fight.

I think he has that wrong as some gear's 3rd stats are unbreakable. So THAT piece has durability removed.

If that's how it's going to be, everything is taking a major hit. Right now at 85 a solo char has the health and DPS of an entire level 60 raid. That may be getting squished down to the point you'll still need a group to do old raids. I hope they've taken that into account, but we'll see.

Frankly, I've never understood why they ever lock you out of any old content from the dungeon finder. I can understand not putting drastically different levels in the same group and spoiling it for the lower levels, but that could be handled by some very basic matching logic.

3:18PM They've noticed that a LOT of people return to older raid content in order to get old tier sets and things like mounts and pets. It's a very popular activity and they don't want to screw with peoples' abilities to do that.
3:18PM "It will still take 5 seconds to kill a Timeless Isle Gulp Frog." You can still solo old content, they don't want to affect your ability to do this.
3:17PM Caveats: Your relative power will NOT change. If you look at percentages and know how much, say, your Flash Heal does on a tank, you'll still see the same when you Flash heal the tank.
3:16PM Most inflation comes from previous raid tiers, and they want to flatten out the big jumps that came at the end of them.
3:16PM Item squish! Why? Because "lolwut?" at the insane numbers in the game right now. "I'm a simple guy, and at the end of the day I want more understandable numbers on the screen."
3:15PM Cleave: increased AOE damage. They think this one's an interesting stat that they've played with a lot on trinkets in SoO.
3:15PM Another is run speed.
3:15PM New tertiary stats: Bonus stats that can appear on gear that will not count against your budget. You may get a glove one day that has a bonus to do something cool. E.g., lifesteal, avoidance: avoid AOE damage by default, sturdiness: no durability loss,
3:13PM Active mitigation has worked out really well, and we think there's a place to retain armor on rings and cloaks, etc.
3:13PM Will retain spirit for healers and armor for tanks.
3:12PM Jewelry, cloaks, trinkets, and weapons will be more role-focused however.
3:12PM Even tier sets will do this -- your stats will change to reflect your current spec
3:12PM Your gear will dynamically update to int if you go holy.
3:12PM "If you're a ret paladin -- and I think most of you are -- " GC, NEVER CHANGE
3:11PM Primary stats will change based on spec, same is true of more limited item drops
3:11PM "Nobody's happy but the paladin when the int plate drops. Going forward we're not going to have intellect plate."
3:11PM NO STRENGTH PLATE VERSUS INTELLECT PLATE
3:11PM Sockets are a bonus and will not count against your budget
3:10PM Fewer items will have gem sockets but they will be more powerful
3:10PM Gems are in the same boat.
3:10PM Examples: Multiple weapon enchants. GC doesn't want to beat down on professions or make crafters poor, they just don't think you should have to deal with so many enchants
3:09PM Enchants: Fewer items can be enchanted but you'll have more choice with the options you do get.
3:09PM "I like how we can get that kind of cheer when we INTRODUCE reforging, and get that kind of cheer again when we take it out."
3:09PM REFORGING - GONE
3:08PM Reforging -- "This is what we call an idea that sounded good on paper, but it turned into this terrible cascade where you get a new piece and gear and have to do a ton of stuff."
3:08PM "Now again, your warrior will still be able to dodge. We will have tanking stats."
3:08PM DODGE AND PARRY - GONE
3:08PM HIT AND EXPERTISE - GONE

In my screenshot you can see at level 90 in all iLevel 528 gear, he has 30k hp.

So are there no more armor sets at all? Does that mean I can get all Tier #whatever, change specs, and have the gear for it?

Yes, the way I read it is tier gear will look like:

A primary stat. For a paladin this will be str as prot/ret and int as holy.
B haste.
C crit.
D sturdiness, no durability loss.

Set bonus based on spec.
