I tanked some randoms on my Druid for valor and a satchel. In three straight randoms over three days, the satchel had:

Green Proto Drake
Tiny Emerald Welpling (sold for 18,500 gold)
Raven Lord

That's awesome!

Only cool thing I ever got from one of those was the blue proto that also drops in UP. Unfortunately, I already had two prior to them making mounts account wide, and I couldn't sell it because it was BoP >.<

Spent time yesterday redoing my gems and reforges, trying to get the most haste I could out of my crit & mastery gear that seems to be all I have...Got to 21.9% haste after frost armor (7%), which is still pretty bad, but all the MV gear is mastery. Mastery is 31.01 and crit at 15.17 after arcane intellect. Luckily, mastery is still decent for arcane.

Also figured out the scorch weaving rotation, and my opinion is that this is the next target for the nerf bat. After 55m damage on the solo raid dummy (so NT had nothing else to hit...), I was at 71.5k, with spikes up to 76k or so during heroism. I did 80k on our protectors kill as arcane, when I was NOT scorch weaving and was only holding 60-61 on the dummy. I'd imagine I can push 90-95 with a good weaving rotation.

I've gotten 4 upgrades since fire was hit with the nerf bat, but even with that OP spec I was only holding ~65k with spikes to 70 on that same dummy.

An arcane spec built around scorch and rune of power isn't likely to last in my opinion. I'm sure we'll see them either increase scorch's mana cost with the number of stacks you're carrying, or eliminate the ability of scorch to proc AM. I think either way would be enough to push everyone to frost, as I think it would be ahead at that point.

feh... after spending a few hundred gold in gems and reforges, I think I hate enhance.

it just feels weird to be a melee spec who has to hardcast in combat (lightning bolt, chain lightning)

edit: but it did allow me to kill Voidreaver, though it was still a crazy long fight being perma-silenced (and now, can't even drop searing totem while silenced). ended it with about 13% health too... next week, I'll probably bring healing pots and a health stone, and drop enhance entirely once my T5 shoulders drop.

In my experience, it was rare to have to cast LB or CL without 5 stacks of MW since it was so far down on the priority list (pretty much dead last).

My alt is trucking along just fine. Word of advice, never level in Vashj'ir! You can't ever find anything because of the multiple tiers/levels/floors. The storyline was fun, but the zone design was just horrible. I'm glad that in Mists, they got rid of zones meant for flying mounts because you could never tell if something was either underground hidden in a cave, or above you hidden in a cloud.

I ended up spending around 3 hours to get to 84 and then another 3 hours for 85, which was horrible. When I hit uldam midway to 85, the xp just rolled because the quests were simple compared to vashj'ir. One mistake I made was waiting till 84 to que up for dungeons. I was hoping that waiting to 84 would allow me to wipe out the dungeons all at once and get a quick 85, but all it did was slow me down because I qued up in the morning, when no tanks were on. I managed to complete the stonecore and that was pretty much it. Que times were THAT horrible.

MOP was far easier. I recommend all new players get the addon QuestCompletionist. With it, you are never lost because you know exactly where all the quests in a zone are. No more blindly running around hoping to find a quest. They are all there on the map. I ended up blowing through MOP levels pretty quickly. Managed to complete Jade Forrest and Karasang Wilds in about 7 hours (including ganks and an hour long DC period) which gave me 1 bar shy of 87. I'm hoping to finish Valley of the Four Winds and Kun-Lai Summit tomorrow, and perhaps even push for 90. I think this guy will be my only alt. The only motivation for leveling him was to see the content I never experienced because I always did things a certain way. Now that I've completed the Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Vasj'ir, and Uldum zones, I don't believe that the leveling process is going to sustain my interest for another alt.

if you've gone through it once, it's a fairly easy levell; particularly in the section where you take over the body of an elite npc.

I did Vash'jir once for the achievements/story and never again.

the storyline was pretty interesting, but Blizz totally dropped the ball on it after deciding not to make Abyssal Maw a raid.

Never got anything 🙁

Yeah I didn't like those quests very much. They were well done outside the downtime/slowness though. I was just in a hurry, I'm sure if I wasn't racing to get to 90 I would have enjoyed them more.

feh... I can't decide on an alt.

this weekend I leveled a monk from 1->16, my warrior from 15->17, and my warlock from 80->81... and I think I may give my DK another go.

I'd like to have a character to hunt down heroic achievements on, and everyone says that Death Knights are the way to go. the rune system always feels clunky to me. I actually put in for a faction transfer for my DK months ago, thinking I'd play him more if he were on the same faction as my mains, but I never got around to using it. wonder if there's anything cheap I should try buying on the Alliance AH to resell for a profit on Horde.

I'm using the default interface and always have. But I'm starting to wonder if I would enjoy another look ....can anybody recommend one and maybe tell me a little about it? 🙂

Pissed. Every time Ive been a nice guy and let people roll for their OS but then on the next boss they roll need something they dont even need and then leave group. Happened about 10 times already. Screw this, Im needed EVERYTHING from now on.

it's the only way to do it.

I macro'd "/i Rolling NEED for offspec, let me know if it's a main-spec upgrade for anyone and I'll trade." rarely get anyone objecting.

Jumped into HoF normal last night, 1-shot the first boss, but took 5-6 tries to get Bladelord down. Our healers are having trouble with running across, not just healing everyone while they do, but avoiding the tornados...finally got him down b/c we had 1 healer, a very well geared DK tank, and a spriest that made it across alive the 2nd time. Only beat the enrage timer by 15-20 seconds. Then we went to Terrace...

Took a few tries at protectors this week for some reason, but when we got them down it was good enough for me to be ranked again. I ranked last week, but it didn't really count since it was after the better mages had cleared as pre-nerf fire. Now they had a lockout as most likely arcane, and I ranked #112 for arcane mages for 10 man normal (not elite) at 94,xxx dps 😀. Go me! Then we got a couple attempts in at Tsulong (first tries) but were nowhere near a kill. We hit the enrage at 30%, healers were arguing over dispels, dps not killing the little shas entirely, etc. Called it quits after I think 3 attempts.

I've found the weak link in our raid, specifically a paladin. She's the healer-turned-ret (except 3 heal fights). Her dps on our protectors kill was 20k below the next lowest, and almost a full 40k below mine. Her gear's not excellent -- she still has I think 4-5 ilvl 463 pieces -- but she doesn't have any LFR ret gear, so the rest is all 489+. Never logs out in her pve ret gear, so I can't tell you what her ilvl is, but I would think with a 489 weapon she should be doing more than 55k on a mostly stationary fight. She also died 3-4 times to lightning storm throughout the night, I don't understand why it's a difficult mechanic =/

Got the OH from Bladelord, meaning I can probably officially stop doing LFR now. DPS queues for the last two weeks, even on Tuesday nights, have been 35 minutes or more. Not worth it, considering the only possible remaining upgrade for me is boots, and I'd only be going from 476-->483, so it's not a big deal. Might find where they drop and just do that one. Everything else except for trinkets (476 DMF / Elegon LFR) are 483+, so I'm in good shape. Avg ilvl is up to 487.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I could just start doing the "new" dailies with 5.1. I think they have 496 boots available for purchase with rep/VPs, then I wouldn't be at the mercy of the loot rolls. Of course, now that I have some 496 gear I could start doing VP upgrades too.

Got my alt to 90 today. Yay! Just to show how good that panda rest racial is, I needed to complete an extra zone (karasang wilds) in order to hit 90 on my troll compared to my panda. Now its time to gear him up!

I just learned something amazing about the game tonight.

on the character select screen, if you click and hold on a character name, you can reorder them 😱 (I knew you could reorder them already, but I always thought you had to click on the up/down buttons provided)

So what's the common setup for mages now? I had leveled mine to 90, but never did any endgame-y (heroics/LFR, I haven't done real raiding since Wrath) stuff in MoP because I felt too weak and squishy compared to my DK when leveling. Now I kinda feel like gearing him up.

Mages are kind of all over the board atm.

Fire for cleaving/aoe, stacks crit.
Arcane for single target, stacks haste.
You may want to go frost for pre-raid considering you will be out in the open doing dailies a lot as well as instances (stack haste). It's decent damage and safer for pvp. Has decent burst aoe for 5-mans.

All spec's are decent at dps, unlike previous expansions.

Managed to get ilvl 470 on my alt today. Only one drop, the trinket off Will in LFR. Everything else was bags.

Yes. The panda racial is amazing for leveling.

Add in being a monk (50% xp bonus to level 85, 20% from 86-90) and then BoA gear up to the respective levels 80/85.

The panda monk was the easiest character I have leveled.

And some of that is logging off for 2 days and coming back and having a ridiculously large rest bar created helped.

For bladelord:

After everyone gets thrown to the end of the hall, tell no one to move, until healers have time to top everyone off to close to full health with aoe. Then as you run across healers use instant heals/HoTs/whatever while the dps/tanks use a small cooldown.

On the run back, you can do 2 things.

1) Make sure healers are healing hard, so when he flies away everyone is already topped off.
2) At 13% have DPS stop, and everyone but the tanks (and maybe a healer) jump into a slip stream on the side and run to the other side at a faster speed. Tanks should be able to do 3% by them selves in this time. And the raid can be already waiting for the boss when he shows up.

Also on 2nd run, make sure everyone uses Healthstones/personal heals/cooldowns to get through.

Tsulong:

Healers - have 1 dedicated to dispelling tsulong, and the other 2 dedicated to dispelling the 2 raid debuffs. Have 2 healers dedicated to healing tsulong, and 1 healer dedicated to healing the raid, but helps on tsulong when possible. (This is a pro monk healing fight. fyi)

For the sha, DPS needs to focus on the adds that spawn (medium sized ones) as they run at tsulong. Tanks pick up big sha, and tank him in front of tsulong. Dps beat down the big add when able. (Tsulong breath does a lot of damage to the sha). Everytime a big guy goes down you have to either

A) Focus him dps wise so he dies right before a breathe and the tsulong breathe kills all the little ones.
B) Have someone use AoE interrupts/stuns on the little sha after the big guy dies (Foot sweep - monk, shadow fury - lock, Sunbeam - Moonkin, etc.) and aoe these guys down asap.

Tsulong on normal has 1 annoying feature (though I have gotten over it) and that is you have 2 night and 2 day phases in the order of N > D > N > D before enrage. And thus the healers have to finish tsulong off before enrage/3rd night cycle.

The paladin, if she logs out in PvE gear I can look her up (if you give me name) so I can review it. Paladins. I know them really well.

Yea besides the 496 belt from new dailies, there is nothing from VP I want anymore. And thus its down to upgrading my 496 gear.

However I still have a blue leather caster bracer.... and only spirit leather drop is off spirit kings in MSV. The HoF leather bracers (trash BoE) is Int without spirit. The VP bracers are int without spirit as well. Which is a nono with current monk standards.
