At what point do you kick your kid out?

How far do you let a 19 year old push before you feel it's better if they just go?

well if my children are going to college then thats fine. IF they are 20+ and not in school then they better get out.

My SIL stayed at home until she was 30. she was working (nearly full time) and not paying rent. My MIL tried to get her to move out but she just would not move. only reason she got her own place is she got married (and her parents moved).

ding dineg ding Iceberg wins. My 23 year old brother just graduated and moved back home. He works pays rent every month, it's just cheaper than an apartment. In fact the only concession he has gotten is that my parents don't force him to go to church since he is paying rent.

i would have my kid arrested if they did that
and i would get a restraining order against them coming near my house

Yeah, I love my son and all but I'd kick him out for the first two alone.

Noone is going to know when the time is right but you. Every kid and every situation is different.

Do I think its ok to kick a 19 year old out of the house for legitimate reasons? Yes. Tough love is the only way to go sometimes. (and tough sh!t is the only thing to say sometimes.)

He said "druggies" as opposed to drugs. I'm assuming he meant others known to do drugs, no?

If the kid is in school and the parents can afford it, no problem. If the kid isn't in school and is working and paying for his/her own stuff, no problem. If the kid isn't in school and isn't paying for his/her own stuff, just sponging off the parents, that's a problem. If the kid is in his 50s and living with mommy and mommy has to make his lunch and stuff, that's a problem.

So lets see. You kick the kid out, now what. What have you accomplished? Are you a better parent now?

That would be enough for me. I'd put him on a deadline to get a job, go to school or move out.

Being unemployed and hanging out with losers is no way to live. (Unless you're retired. :p )

my opinion too. I should also add that if they are done with college (~22yo), I don't mind if they stay home afterward to save money till they can afford a house. Renting is a waste of money - and I don't want that for my children. If they're going to do that, they may as well just give it to me.

Yeah, it's called being a teenager. A real parent always lets a child come home. Only the weak ones kick them out.

I crashed my dad's fvcking car with my learner's permit, caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to both cars...all he did was look at me, and say "I'm dissapointed", and it made my mom cry. Worst punishment I've ever recieved.
