At what age...

How old were you when first needed to use deodorant? You know, when your parents couldn't stand to be near you and gave you some, or when you noticed it yourself?

I'm curious because my 9 year old is so funky by the end of the day that I've started to require him to use deodorant after showers. Isn't that a little young?

Update: got a look at the offending armpits and found he's growing peach fuzz. FVCK. Puberty is just around the corner.

I've never thought about it...and I have no idea. I don't really remember a time that I didn't wear deoderant. 😕

Kids should start using it by the time they hit 5th grade. They normally don't before 7th grade. Smelly little jerks.

you popped out of your mom and reached for the speed stick didn't you?

i would too. 😛 KIDDING 😀 < smiley

me.. um i think i was 13, not sure.

My little sister is 10 and I've started making her wear it cause she smells like sh!t come the end of the school day. She'll enter a room and leave and the smell will literally linger behind her. I don't recall when I first started but it was definitely a good deal past 10 years old.

I think I started to really need at about 25, no kidding. That's when you feel you're starting to get really old and like can smell it.

So 4th grade isn't terribly early?

Asian? My Japanese ex didn't need it, but he'd occasionally put some on because he liked the scent.

If they're stinking, they should wear it. You wouldn't believe how bad some of these kids smell during a hot summer day.

Personally, I started wearing it during 5th grade. I probably should've worn it earlier.

I was just wondering if kids that young should be stinking, not funky little kid odors, but nasty, eye-watering armpit odor. It's indicative of the start of puberty, isn't it?

I personally don't wear deodorant everyday anymore. No need. I am not running around doing stupid stuff, and I shower everyday and after I work out.

Eat healthy and you have solved half of the odor issue.

I remember my elementary school giving a hygiene package to every student in 5th grade. So I really don't think a year is going to be too huge of a difference for them to start stinking.

For many people, it's not as much as an odor issue as it is a perspiration issue.

I perspire like a MoFo when I work out, but I just take a shower afterwards. I mean, you are supposed to sweat when you work out.

Race, hormones, and amount of body hair determine how much your pits will stink more than your diet. How many of you that don't need deodorant/antiperspirant are NOT asian?

When i was younger, i remember in 5th grade they split up the boys and girls and gave them the talks.
thats when we got our first little sample of deodorant and other feminine things as well.

Thats when i started wearing it.
Thats when most of my friends started as well.
It could differ from girls and boys, but they are devloping so much earlier now, i would not be surprised if your 8y/o needed it!

That is hilarious. Hormones play a vital role (It is true, asians in general have less testosterone in their system, but I come from good stock 😉), but if you eat healthy, take care of yourself, and shower when you need to, you won't smell that bad. I shower at least once a day, if I work out and it is early, I will shower 2 times a day, but usually that is unneccessary.

I distinctly remember my 5th grade teacher telling us we all smelled bad and we need to have our parents buy us deodorant, so 10
