I have all kinds of socks. White, black, calf-length, super-short, wool, cotton, patterned... why would you relegate yourself to one kind/color? When it's really cold and I need to wear boots for doing outdoor things, I put on the brown wool calf-length thickboys. When wearing tennis shoes to work, it's the low-cut comfy cotton.

I'll admit that I have preferred pairs, but I like to change things up like that so it doesn't seem too monotonous or bland.

Uh, like never. Almost all my socks are white. I used to wear a lot of colored, even black socks but only do that now if going formal or not even then.

I probably have at least 3 dozen various pairs. Most are black ankle socks. I have two pair of white ankle socks, but rarely wear them (only when I'm wearing shorts and the one single pair of white shoes I own, which is rarely).

I switched to black socks in HS, as most of my clothing and shoes are dark colored or black.

The question should be when did you stop washing your socks. Are your white socks now gray socks? Did people switch to darker colored socks to avoid showing dirt because they do not wash their socks regularly?

I keep my whites fairly white by adding non-chlorine bleach to my whites' wash cycles.

Brings back memories of a couple hundred scout camp kids singing this song.

Black socks they never get dirty, the longer you wear them the blacker they get.
Sometimes I think i should wash them, but something keeps telling me dont do it yet.
Not yet, not yet, not yet!

White socks are not dyed. Other colors are. Arguably, white socks are healthier. They show dirt. So? Lets you know (1) if it's time to wash them, (2) how dirty the insides of your shoes are. Yes, your socks will start to stink after wearing them a time. Yes, you can sniff them, but I'd rather give them a glance.

Always dark socks, or at least grey socks.
Normal length socks.

Never white socks cause they tend to discolor often while wearing new shoes for the first time. Or when walking on socks without shoes, white socks tend to discolor which just looks bad.
Makes me feel dirty and people i care about might get the wrong impression.

I have normal length socks but since a few years grey and black ankle socks.
I always despised ankle socks. But during my dating era a few years ago, a nice woman i was dating got me into wearing ankle socks in the summer, which indeed made me look more sportive :sunglasses:.

I still can hear women yell : I am coming after you with a pair of scissors if you dare to wear a navy or sand colored bermuda with pockets on the sides again :nomouth: .

I haven't bought socks since well before the pandemic and am not in the market. When I have enough laundry to fill my washer (either coloreds or whites) I do a load. I'm loaded with socks and have so many T-shirts. I could use more pants but Costco hasn't carried the ones I like, so I make do.
