There is no vast conspiracy to conceal Obama's really a Muslim, a terrorist, a Communist, etc.
At this point, it's not just desperation, its anti-American. NO evidence. NO conspiracy. Yet they have almost half the country believing Obama is some kind of secret terrorist.

What this bodes for the country? It's as dangerous as real terrorists.

One benefit of it is to make the McCarthy era slightly less of a "what the hell was wrong with those people" issue, and more understandable.

Maybe what we need is a Republican Senator holding hearings to find out who has known Bill Ayers, and blackballing them if they can't prove they aren't secret terrorists.

Remember the beginning of the fall of McCarthy was when a national news story showed a serviceman who was kicked out because a family member read a left-wing paper, IIRC.

It's a lot less hard to believe that sort of thing as we watch the maniacs attack Obama for so much.

In a related Story, the Sacramento (California) County Republican Party web page had up on their web site with pictures of Obama and Osama and the message "The difference between Osama and Obama is just a little B.S.". After taking it down because it was offensive (and the state party objected to it), the replacement story has an article saying things like "Imagine how much garbage there must be on the Marxist messiah, Barack Obama, that even his lovers, the mainstream media, cannot hide it all."

Another group supporting McCain in CA had up a picture of Barack with a bucket of fried chicken, a slab of ribs, and a slice of watermelon next to him. The president of the group said she apologized 'if it offended anyone' and that she meant "to represent food, nothing else". She said she can't be guilty of racism because her Jewish grandparents had to leave Germany.

I think President Obama will have a cleansing effect on this sort of craziness. Thank goodness the right-wing is somewhat conditioned to have *some* respect for the president, although they have been willing to push the envelop even on that, as they did under Bill Clinton (some may also remember more fring right-wingers under JFK publishing a 'wanted for treason' ad in the paper with his picture as a criminal). But I think it'll help to have a black president - it'll overcome some of the people who are simply not 'ready' for it.

It's getting so bad that even my grandfather, who is a lifelong Republican, is bowing out of this election. The Bill Ayers attacks and the hatefulness of the rallies has completely turned my 80 year old grandfather away from the Republican party. Now he's not voting Democratic, but the fact that he isn't voting this election is astounding to me.
