AT&T repair guy cut the lock on our back yard gate

Ok, I'm beyond livid right now.

I got home today and found a green tag on my door.

It's from AT&T and says "In reponse to your request for repair service"

It has all these options listed, nothing is checked. under comments it says

"need access to pole in back yard, need padlock unlocked please"

There is no number to call, except the generic 800 number.

Since I don't have service with AT&T, I go next door ( i live in a duplex) and ask the neighbor about it. She says "we don't have at&t but the guy was here, and I think he cut your lock on the gate".

I go look, yea, he did.

We have a dog. A dog that knows how to flip the lever to unlock the gate which is why we have it locked with a padlock. Both my roommate and I work all day. So this ass hat just cuts our lock? When did he do this? In the morning? So our gate was unlocked all day?

What happens when I call that 800 number? I get nowhere, because we don't have service with AT&T. I finally get a rep in houston and spent 20 minutes on the phone with her.

Seriously..

WTF!!!

Wonder if he got the address wrong (not that it's any consolation).

What kind of lock was it? What do you think he cut it with?

What rights-of-way are on your property? He may have been well within his rights gaining access by cutting the lock. You could waste time and aggravation bitching at ATT, or just replace the lock, preferably with something that doesn't have to be cut to open.

Not worth getting all pissy. Now if your dog got loose, then I could understand.

Sure, it's the principle of the matter, but it just ain't worth it.

even if they have right of way they are not permitted to cut a lock (well in some situations they can and this is not one)

is it worth complaining about? sure. if you don't mind wasting the time.

And the dog would have been well within its Rights-Of-way to chew his fucking nutsack off.

Depending on how the deed/plat is written, the whole fence could be illegal. He may have to maintain access to the telco equipment. It's funny how pissed some people get when they're told to move their stuff, or the bulldozers will move it for them :^D

I can understand that, but it was just crappy notice and not enough info for me to verify it was even truly AT&T. I don't want to have to spend 2 hours verifying who actually broke into my back yard.

If they are going to leave me an official notice, I expect it to be signed so I can follow a paper trail.

I can appreciate that, but sometimes you just have to say "fuck it". Bitch to the wife about it, or whatever, and move on. I'd be happier knowing it was ATT instead of someone that got disrupted from burgling my house. It's just another one of life's little pissoffs that isn't worth expending much energy on.

Yeah that's pretty fucked up. Even if that AT&T pole was on an easement, which it probably was, the least the guy could have done was put the snipped lock back on the latch.

if i could just verify with AT&T it was really them and not a burglar or someone trying to screw with my property, then I wouldn't be so upset.

uh.. no

if there wasnt a lock, then maybe he's allowed to open the gate to his fenced in back yard.

but if there's a lock, then no.

think of car repo men. when u get that car loan u authorize the repo men to reclaim the car if u fail to pay, even if it's on your property.

it even goes as far as allowing them to enter your garage.
but over riding laws prohibit them from entering your garage if it's locked. thus they can only enter if it's unlocked.

"after all, you signed a piece of paper allowing them in for exchange for the car loan thus you must have meant for them to repo your car by leaving the garage unlocked"

That's not the same thing. See my post above regarding deeds/plats....

When I came back from the 4th holidays on Monday, my brother told me that Charter had been there for a service call on Sunday to check out my cable internet. He said they had also booted my laptop. He let them in my apartment.

One problem, I didn't schedule any service calls at all. And I had no idea you could get Charter out on a Sunday...

Yet there was a $35 fee for a service call (7/4/10) on my bill when I checked online.

So apparently Charter made an unscheduled service call to my apartment on a Sunday, looked through my laptop, and then billed me for it.
