Meh. I've done 1% of actual useful posting. ;)

But anyway, I can't find anything about the $10 DSL. Might have to do the $30 one. Thanks for the link BS.

I wish this was available in my area. I can get AT&T phone service (not that I'd want to) but they don't offer DSL here. Qwest's "naked" DSL is $37 per month with a 1 year contract. :(

I am so sick of ATT and their bleeding attempt to defraud, that I doubt I'll ever go through with this in order to beg for a potential couple of years of cheap service.

Say what you will, but I know about my personal experience with ATT, and it was a pattern of outright lies and deception, anything to avoid telling me the bottom line. It's as though they were the mob, your money is an entitlement, and the communications business is just a way to legitimize the fleecing of their customers.

Well said.

Still at $10 a month if the install isn't too much fuss could make a nice transition service, and/or something to price match against.

If the bandwidth could be stacked with existing service, or even just for the times when the stupid cable isn't working right.

So what's the procedure to get this if the official page does not list the $10 DSL plan for a zip code?

1. Go to ATT.com, and click the Internet link.

2. Go to the bottom of the page, and click View Promotional Offers.

3. Click DSL at even a Lower Price!

4. Enter your areacode and phone number or your zipcode, and follow the instructions.

The $10 offer may not currently be available in your area, and last time I checked, it was only for new subscribers to ATT's Internet service.

Good luck. :)

Yes for new customers, why wouldn't $10 DSL be available everywhere if it's a consession to the FCC?

If it helps anyone, here's a list of plans that are available *without* requiring a voice line in the Cleveland area (these plans are probably available elsewhere, too):
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/243317120-O.jpg

These actually aren't bad at all for naked DSL service:
768k down, 384k up for $19.95 w/ 1-yr contract
1.5m down, 384k up for $23.99 - no contract
3.0m down, 512k up for $28.99 - no contract
6.0m down, 768k up for $38.99 - no contract

I clicked your link but still no go. Look like $10 DSL or naked DSL is not avaiable here. Darn BFE, time to move to a big city like Dallas.

I think this is similar to how much they charge for naked DSL in South Florida.

The 6 Mbps service is comparable to cable's top end offering in terms of speed and seems to be a tad cheaper. How does DSL compare to cable in terms of actual throughput? Do you have to close to a central office to be able to get the "full" speed?

been through this .... if you call they will say "never heard of it" you pretty much have to go to their supervisor and force the issue.

you should even be able to get a free modem with the deal if you work it right.

FCC mandated that it's good until 2009 so don't let them tell you it's "old" either.

Yeah, that's exactly what I see as well, I guess the 23.99 - No Contract would be the way to go for me . My promo is ending on my 19.99 cable so, I may jump on this. I wonder if you get a FAR modem? I dunno if I will be moving anytime soon so... I don't want a contract....

Hmmmmm.....

so much for the 10.00 deal......... I guess you gotta get a line for 13.00 more. But still a one year contract is not good for me.

I have "naked" 6.0Mbps DSL with ATT (Bellsouth). I got it a couple months ago, costs $47 per month as I recall, slightly more than their normal 6.0 rate with phone, but still about $20 less per month without the local phone. All I did was call and ask for it, goodbye worthless local phone service. I have been using VoicePulse VOIP for several years, good stuff, my local area is the eastern half of Florida from Orlando to Key West. With Bellsouth, the west side of town was long distance.

Here is a link for more info on the service without phone. Search on DSLreports for more info in your area if needed.

This promotion is available to business customers only. If you are a residential customer, please call our residential customer service center at 1-888-729-1438 Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm CT, or Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm CT to find out about the great residential offers we have available for you.

Error Code: 229

Heh, I tried the steps to order and got ^ as a response.

Then it showed:

$14.99/mo - Basic DSL - 768Kbps Down/No Mention of Up
$19.99/mo - Express DSL - 1.5Mbps Down/No Mention of Up
$24.99/mo - Pro DSL - 3.0Mbps Down/No Mention of Up
$34.99/mo - Elite DSL - 6.0Mbps Down/No Mention of Up

For video streaming/WoW, guessing I'll have to go with at least the $24.99? Suggestions?
The Basic and Express only offer a free modem [after rebate], guessing this wont support my wireless laptop. The Pro/Elite offer $50 cashback, and a free modem OR wireless gateway. So I get one, but still need to buy the other? Seems like the deals got worse over the years. 3 years ago we got a free modem that had built in wireless, multiple extenders, etc. When they did the 2wire packages.

Also thought it was odd getting pricing from ATT was cheaper than getting pricing from SBC. Aren't they the same?

Hrm.

Edit: Just talked to them online. I can only order the naked DSL via telephone. Which means no deal at all on a modem. Basically just tell em i wont sign up unless they include the hardware? :p

I'd be interested in seeing the rate of success with getting these naked DSL prices. I pulled up the website Friday and was looking at the prices mentioned above. The only way to get any info was to call, so I did that. The response I got after a lengthy conversation with two different reps and their manager is that those prices simply aren't available in my area. They then quoted me the same thing I'm paying for DSL now. When I pointed out that the website specifically says "Mississippi" at the top, they still refused to honor it, saying it was looking at a website "for the West Coast."

i set this up for my sister's place via their webpage, got the 10 bucks a month deal but was promised a voucher to get back most of the modem costs, but that never came through.

win some, lose some, but the actual connection worked great, especially for her limited use.
