I would gladly swap your internet connection for mine.

I'm with Virgin Media in the UK and my connection speed (downloading) goes up and down faster than a pair of tart's knickers (or a yo-yo).

AT&T 6Mbps DSL:

Not too bad when you account for overhead...

My DSL has been rock solid for 7 years now. I have no complaints.

None of that information is actually useful in this situation. You want to find your Signal Noise Margin (Might also be designated at dB, NMR, or SNR). It should be at least 10.0 or higher on both the upstream and downstream signal.

When calling support:

1. ask what speed profile you are set to.
2. Ask what relcaps (relative capaicty) your line is showing right now. This is the amount of signal they have to pump to you to keep the circuit alive. If it gets over 85% on the downstream, it may be unstable. If it's above 85% on the upstream, it's probably a wiring/install issue on your end.
3. Ask what your noise margins are. They should be above 10.0 (as stated above).

Setting the profile to Interleave is very easy for them to do unless your circuit is on a remote terminal. If I had your phone number and zip code I'd be able to tell you more about your circuit that would be helpful :)

i'm getting 40.9db downstream 22db upstream attenuation, and thanks. how much of a latency hit should i expect after interleaving if i'm getting about 25 ping through speedtest/pingtest?

OK, attenuation and noise margins aren't the same thing. Attenuation is essentially "how much resistance is in the line". Your attenuation is fine. Noise margin is how much signal your modem is receiving.

With interleave, your datastream is sent in a linear pattern instead of a burst pattern, so it takes a couple of seconds to get up to full speed. Imagine a frieght train vs. a 4 lane highway---both go the same speed, it just takes a little longer for the train to get there. Latency may be increased by 25-150ms.

New Uverse, I'm not impressed. for the $200 per month (TV and long distance included), not worth it. Btw, I'm 40 miles from lansing not 750.

what you do is demand to talk to teir 2 support or how ever you spell it .. teir 1 is morons. then you demand they run a trace on the line or what ever, id first start off with a new modem tho, i was only 2nd 2wire att modem and just switched over to a 3rd thats just regular modem with asus 520gl. been paying 25 for 6mbit for years at 2 diff houses and sharing with 4 houses.

I just called ATT support for the first time.

MOTHERFUCKING USELESS GOODDAMN FUCKTARDS WASTE OF BREATHING AIR $#%^#%#%!!!!!!!

My DSL connection suddenly went out since 9am as I was walking out the door to go to work. At 9:30 my wife calls me saying she can't work from home because connection has not re-established.

I contact tech support and they tell me I need to be home for troubleshooting. All right, I go home. It's obvious the problem is on their end since PPPoE connection cannot be established, while the modem itself is connected just fine.

50 fucking minutes with this retard, and I asked him multiple times to check if they have an outage. <que Indian accent here>No sir! No outages in your area!</que> Finally after this goddamn human script reader exhausted all his options and tried to transfer me to level 2 support, he found out they do have an outage! With no ETA to boot.

It's 12 o'clock now, and internet is still not back up.
I am fooooking pissed.
