at&t internet sucks

paying for 6mbit and getting 4.9 🙁 sigh. originally i was getting pretty close to 6mbit but it just keeps getting slower 🙁. should just get charter but its kinda expensive.

edit:
It sounds like your phone line actually sucks. If you're getting 4.9, you're probably on a 5200K profile, which is what they put you on if you're not close enough to the central office to get a strong enough signal.

Call ATT tech support and have them check your provisioned speed and your relative capacity. If your capacity is near 100%, see if they can put your circuit on "Interleave". This mode will increase latency a bit, but stabilize the circuit and possibly give you better performance.

i think it is a problem fixable by interleaving, as i'm getting 40.9 downstream attenuation, but when i called tech support and asked if they could set up interleaving on the line, the guy essentially called me a noob 🙁 and said i set up my router wrong... sigh :\ he didn't even set up the line interleaving. I think this also might be why i sometimes get page will not load errors and have to refresh, and my modem has so many unrecoverable errors :S

Really? I've only owned my iPhone for ~2 weeks and I haven't had any issues with calls.

Maybe you're in one of the few places in the country with good AT&T reception but if you've ever read the internet you'd know how horrible AT&T's reception is.

It's a hit and miss. There are some days I can't make a phone call for hours on end. Other days it works fine.

The internet is always fast as heck though...

Do you have ANY IDEA how much of The Internet traverses ATT links? Residential service is not a big concern.

But do go on how those evil corporations are. I love these threads because I picture an 85 year old man shaking his fist at the power companies.

I'm on ATT U-verse 6 Mb. I haven't had any problem with download speed, but I get repeated problems in websites domain name resolving. It's as if their DNS servers don't cache any request at all and every single time they have to look it up all over again (which sometimes fail so I had to do a quick refresh where it will then be successful).

This is very annoying, and afaik I can't switch to OpenDNS or Google because of the way U-verse connection is setup so I'm stuck like this

Did they take admin rights from you on your PC?

No.

And yes, I know I can change the DNS on each interface manually (there are tons of internet connected devices at my home). What I can't do is change the DNS at the router (the way I've always done it before with Charter cable).

Portland and San Jose work well for me. Never had an issue with call reception. I do notice that I get a 3G connection a lot easier in Portland than San Jose (sometimes I get dropped to EDGE)

29.99 Optimum Service bundled with 15.99 nationwide VOIP.

Uploading a lot of stuff via ftp which is why im guessing the upload is so low.
