I just saw a commercial for AT&T Broadband internet and the guy on TV was bragging about how cable was 1.5mbps down while dialup was slow. But, on the screen, it displayed 1.5mbps down and 256k/s up. I only get 128k/sec up, as does everyone else I know who has AT&T cable internet. So WTF? Should I call them up and bitch? BTW in the comercial the guy has a goatee and he shows the actual RCA cable modem.

I signed up about the time AT&T bought MediaOne, and have had 300Kbps up (effectively 285) ever since :D

edit- and I would call up and bitch if I were you.

edit2- shoot, I think you won't be able to get anywhere because when you signed up, the contract probably stated 128Kbps. It can't hurt to try though.

They just changed this recently. I was only getting 128k up on an ex-MediaOne line. Now I'm getting 256k out of the blue (I speed tested the other day, said WTF? and looked into it at DSL Reports).

Call and see what's taking them... It probably depends on which network you are (ex-road runner, ex-mediaone, ex-whoever else ATTBI bought out/paid off)...

I'm an ex-excite@home. When I first got the service, I was getting over 100kiloBYTES/sec upload, then they changed me to this 128kiloBIT thats slow as a mofo. I'd like to call them and find out. If my contract says 128, I'll tell them I want to change to 256. Anyone know where to find the # to call?

I'm on the phone with em now. Where are you from? At&t says it is capped at 128k which we already knew. So I'm wondrin if you have a service that they bought out or something in your area. I'll call em again but I need more info.

I'm from SLC, UT and maybe it's just a local commercial... I don't know, next time I see it I'll take a closer look. But I'm still only getting 128kbit UL.

<< you should talk to fmcobalt, he's a tech for AT&T broadband. >>

w0ot :) Warms my heart that someone remembered. :p

In the commercial, were they offering a special? Most likely they were. That package probably comes with that deal. As far as I know, all of today's clients are capped (nation wide, company wide) at 128kpbs (15KBps). I mean... I hear crap before any of the subs do, and I was at work yesterday with no news like that. So unless that's part of a deal, AT&T isn't changing anyone's current upload cap or letting new customers on with more than that for regular service reguarding long periods of time.

It never hurts to call, but don't bitch!!!. While I'm still a 56k'er, I called BellSouth with my issues when I moved and would only connect at 28.8kbps MAX!!!

Well anyway they came out after numerous calls and believe it or not, switched me from a fiber line to a 40 year old copper line!!! This helped alright but, now wouldn't connect me for sh!t. I made about 60-70 calls (while maintaining a productive attitude I should add) and we tried numerous modem strings and dial-up property adjustments.

We finally figured out there was a lot of changes going on with the whole phone system since we changed to 10 number dialing. Now my modem connection is a consistent 50.6kbps, connects in seconds and I couldn't be happier.

What I'm basically trying to say is be cool to the techs no matter how many calls you make. Demand what you are paying for and with the right attitude these techs will be more than happy to help you out.

Hell, I even made a friend over at BellSouth who I stay in contact with. This guy is the coolest and we talked for an hour (on BellSouth's dime) about building 'puters and where to find the best deals on hardware. :D

That's not a standard account. AT&T does different kinds of accounts for business, etc. If it comes with any sort of corporate order for yours to have a higher upload, you don't have a standard home "entertainment purposes only" account.

My roommate & I moved from one apt to another within the same complex. Ended up on the same node, our system pulls the same IP, etc, but we now get 256 up when we had 128 before.

Same 1.5 down, same price.

Can't complain.

<< you shouldnt be pulling the same IP's :Q >>

And why not? We basically pulled our 2K adv server machine off one connection, drove it across the complex, & plugged it back in on the new connection.

Same node, same MAC address on the server, it should pull the same IP.

Yes, he should. IP's are assigned with a four-day lease to a certain MAC address. He plugs in that MAC address in a different appartment (or down the block even or something) and he's going to get that IP until his lease is up.

That's screw-ball about the connection, Gregg. I'm going to start asking questions. If I need to, I might even call TASC.

In theory, you could take the NIC out and drop it into another system completely and you'll get the same IP.
