Couldn't live without a GD cell phone, eh?

Some of us at college have a cell phone because it's far less expensive than long distance charges calling home all the time. HC also has a publishing representative job and her writers and editors need to be able to get a hold of her no matter where she is. Legitimate uses for cellular telephones do exist you know.

HC has no job. If an employer requires you to have a cell, they'll also pay for it. Calling cards are about 5 cents per minute. Funny, but I NEVER hear these kids with cells permanently attached to their heads, talking to mommy or daddy...

Here's the democratic response to that. Well it wasn't her fault she wasn't born into money, she wasn't one of the lucky ones. The government should hand out cell phones for the less fortunate. Well, maybe the employer that laid her off owes her compensation for the unjust termination, they should give her a cell phone to use free of charge for 12 months, and she should be able to choose the plan that fits her life style.

She had a job when she entered into the contract. She was working on commission. You have not met her, you do not know her. I can guarantee you that she is nothing like "those kids with cell phones" about whom you rant. Perhaps if you knew HC as I do then you would perhaps see with more clarity.

Having a landline is $20 per month where I am. Her cell phone was $20 per month and that included long distance. She comes out ahead with the cell phone.

HTF do you get in debt to the tune of $500.00, if it's only $20.00 per month?
Charges for early cancellation of the contract. A contract that she did not authorise to have canceled.

Look up your states public utilities commissions, citizens utility board, or whatever they call themselves and file a complaint. They're usually happy to help.

"This is the THIRD frigging time something like this has happened."

Amazing. Maybe it would be better to conduct these interactions via email, snail mail or something verifiable.

The previous two times, if I remember correctly, were when her father was dealing with the company and not her.

Christ, lay off it already! Yes, it would have been better to have case notes, names, dates/times, a voice recording of the entire conversation, and a DNA sample of the agent who took her call.

Then again, one should not have to assume absolute incompetence when dealing with a telecommunications provider.

Find something better to do with your time, trolling OT should really be below you.

you could check to see whether they have two different networks set up in your area...i.e. tdma and gsm. If one doesn't work in your house, maybe the other will. It would involve getting a new phone, but I'm sure you could get them to throw one in for free.

Jesus Christ, ornery, don't you have anything better than to, well, be ornery?

Actually with a onesuite.com phone card, it's only 2.5 cents per minute 🙂

Best way to deal with AT&T is keep calling every day and speak to a different CSR. If they screwed up, they will eventually fix their error. I've had to do this twice before and it took a little work but always worked out.
