AT Shot of the Day Thread

It would be nice to know what we're looking at.

The first pic is sand dunes on a deflation surface (wind carved depressions).

The second pic has small dune fields. The depressions and fracture patterns look like permafrost expansion/contraction patterns. At least that's the main terrestrial analog I can think of that could produce similar patterns. Salt dome erosion might produce something similar but postulating the existence of salt domes on Mars would be problematic.

Chinese New Year fireworks display on the Hudson. Took my tripod so I could set up for longer exposures. Some camera shake is visible with some of them being up to 15 seconds long, but I really like the look compared to high ISO, faster exposures:

Last full moon of winter...

Took this my Sony A6400 using a 200-600 lens and 1.4 teleconvertor in my backyard...

I've thought about the 75-300 for my m43 body - a good way to get some big zoom.
Your photos give me a mixed message. I'm viewing them zoomed in 100%.

The first photo looks superb - great sharpness and contrast.

The second photos looks good - average both.

The third photo - The sharpness is meh ( missed focus ) and the contrast is poor. It almost looks like it is a cropped portion of a final image.

How has your other experiences with the lens been?

How has your other experiences with the lens been?

Yeah the two Spotted towhee photos are not the greatest, but I like them none the less. The third one has been cropped. They have also (like the ones below) been resized to post.

This is a lens that needs a lot of light to really shine. The photos above were taken on an overcast day. They were also shot at 300mm handheld. Have to credit Olympus IBIS for that.

While I'd love the Panasonic 100-400 it is about 4x the price of this lens. The upcoming Olympus 150-400 Pro will most likely be amazing but I'm hearing guesses of close to $10,000 for it. And it's HUGE! For a goof around lens with big zoom I'm quite happy with the 75-300. Also, it's only about the size of a soda can for a 600mm FF equivalent.

Here are a few examples of what this lens can do in better light. Zoo photos taken at 300mm. The bird was shot at 179mm to give you an idea of the mid range of the zoom. The meerkat was shot with the EM5.2 and the others EM1.2 and all handheld.

The sky cooperated much better tonight and kept the clouds away...definitely happier with this pic than last night's....
