I shot team and individual photos of six peewee flag football teams today which is a lot of grinding but pays the bills. I took time to shoot a few minutes of one of the game before I left. Peewee sports are always fun.

I just came back from a 5 day trip to the rockies, starting in Drumheller, passing through Calgary, and then into Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, Jasper, etc. I took way too many photos, so it's going to take a long time for me to sort and process. For now, here is one shot from the beginning of my trip, taken in the national park by the museum in Drumheller during a sunrise!

Shot with the Tokina 11-16. I've been tempted to get a better, faster ultrawide prime that can double for astro duty, but this 11-16 still serves me well! Shot at 11mm, f/8, 1/60, iso 640. Shot hand held and lightly processed in LR (a bit of shadow recovery and turn down highlights a little)

For my 40th birthday, I took a trip out to Shi Shi Beach in Washington. Both of my friends who were supposed to go with me had cancelled a day prior. I almost didn't go, but since I had already done a ton of research and flights were paid for, decided to go on my own. It was the best vacation that I ever took (I hope my wife doesn't read this). I met some amazing people on this beach. I had never camped before in my life and a group of younger folks helped me set up my tent right before sunset. The view was surreal! Then I met another photographer and he gave me some cool pointers as we shot the Milky Way. We then spotted a cougar in the dark (not the nice kind) and moved away as quickly as possible, and luckily, it didn't follow us. And then we hung out around the campfire with the people that had helped me earlier and drank scotch as the clock turned midnight on my birthday.

I'm now sitting at work itching to go on another trip.

nice story, some of my favorite trips have been solo trips too, despite not being a social type of person at all. There is just something to be said about the experience. And that photo is stunning! Such a cool looking landscape, and the water is amazing.

Here is one of my astro shots from my recent trip to the rockies, using the 35mm f/1.4 Sigma Art that I've been dying to try at night for a while now.

This was at Pyramid Lake in Jasper. My brother got some nice shots of the landscape with his 20mm, but with the 35mm it was not quite wide enough to take in the landscape and also get lots of nice stars. We were lucky to be there around the right time, right before the strong clouds and moonlight robbed us of the views.

This is a single exposure, it was somewhat of an impromptu session and I was not exactly sober after a night at the pub. :p Overall though I am fairly pleased with the results from the Sigma, I want to try getting some multiple exposures for stacking the next (hopefully better-planned) next time.

One of my favorites from the same night, even though it didn't turn out to be the best in terms of sharpness, I liked it the most in terms of composition that I could get from that vantage point with the 35:

Cousin in Bangkok took these yesterday. They might all have fast internet but damn. Pictures are blurry more for the subject matter.

I don't envy the techs that have to work on that. But honestly I've seen just as bad of a mess in our network infrastructure here in Canada, some places are horrendously bad. Thailand does have some decent connectivity though, so much better than the Philippines.

Here's some scenery from Maligne Canyon, Jasper National Park:

It's a 1.3 second f/16 exposure using the railing. What I love the most about it isn't the fact of doing it with no tripod, but that I can get some sense of motion into the water without completely blowing away all the textures/details. So it looks smooth and cool, but not too far gone!

Great water pictures in quick succession by BigRash and zCypher! Those deep colors are impressive!

I've always loved to stop-freeze flowing water with quick exposure time, to be able to see the droplets and all, but your motion capture at 1.3s is really good as you did not lose any detail of the surrounding. I'll need to try this next time.
