Son, if you can't get an automatic to accelerate you've got some very serious deficiencies in your driving ability. I have never in my life driven an automatic that didn't kickdown immediately when the throttle was floored; even a Prius, which is dog slow to begin with, kicks down and accelerates when the throttle is floored.

Your story makes it sound much more like you're an incompetent driver who is blaming the car rather than his own lack of skill.

You are lying. You can floor the gas pedal with your automatic and it will never drop a gear? Oh no, you can't. You were lying. Go back to lying like a liar, liar. Fucking asshole.

I'm glad that people that have no fucking clue about cars are pretending like they do.

Kickdown = drop a gear.

Yeah, but "immediately" is ridiculous. As if ATs exist outside of our dimension and do not share the same constrictions of time. They somehow can shift and accelerate faster than anything else can just accelerate. It's bullshit. Just somebody trying to pull apart somebody else's statement by making no sense.

"It is slower because it has to do two things as opposed to one."

"NOT UH IT DOES BOTH THINGS FASTER THAN OTHERS DO ONE THING!"

If you are in 1st and floor it, obviously there is no gear to drop down to. Also, if you are already near redline in any other gear other than 1st, most automatics won't allow you to kick down a gear to protect the engine from over-rev. Other than those 2 extreme situations, automatics WILL kick down a gear when the accelerator is floored.

What kind of car are you driving?

So you're saying that you can downshift your manual faster than an automatic kicks down?

Or are you somehow trying to make the patently absurd claim that the split-second it takes for an automatic to kick down is sufficiently long to make the difference between you causing an accident by cutting someone off because you couldn't anticipate a merge point?

Even if you're trying to compare the difference in time between an automatic kicking down and accelerating and accelerating when you're already in the lower gear because you've been holding that gear, the difference is so incredibly small that it cannot ever be sufficient for it to cause the issued you are claiming.

In short, it is the bad carpenter who blames his tools.

Any man that is worth more than 2 cents knows how to drive a stick shift.

Automatics were made for women and one legged men.

If driving one makes me act like you, then I'll sell my manual cars. I don't want to be a dick like you. You've got some problems.

Oh, I see, not content to actually discuss the issue, you want to just sit back in your high chair and pout while adopting a holier than thou attitude.

That's cool, but good thing everyone else sees through it.

Well, this thread mushroomed as I expected. I have driven both and learned a MT about 2 years after I got my license. I was also of the mindset that I could "drive anything" after learning a typical syncromesh 5 speed in '00. Then it came time to drive our rental truck at work in '04 to which I immediately jumped at the opportunity.

After a bit of touch and go, and luckily with lots of interstate travel I did get it down pat. However, I must say there is a big difference between driving a borderline CDL vehicle with dog tooth gears and air brakes compared to a light weight syncromesh vehicle.
