Glad you're alright. Did you(personally) have any property damage?

Hey guys, yes I'm extremely close to the epicenter and the quake was very strong indeed! I'm ok though. Pics coming very soon. Big mess to clean up :-/ I only just got power.

Thanks for the kind (and not so kind) words.

Glad you are okay over there :)

Some crazy pics
Good thing it was ("only" doesn't seem the right word here) a 7.2 earthquake and not a higher magnitude.

Any personal damage for you? Looks like stuff mostly got toppled over.
EDIT: you answered my question

Pretty incredible pics, thanks for sharing.

Decent amount of damage, but I would expect more in a 7.4. NZ must have pretty decent building codes.

In a third world country with poor buildng codes there would have been a large number of deaths.

How far off the coast was it? Obviously nothing in the news said anything about a tidal wave at all.

Good to see my second favourite surly atheist on ATOT is in one piece.

Ouch, that BWM got owned. Hope they have disaster insurance. :p

NZ has very high quality building codes. Which is why it looks like only the older buildings are seriously damaged.

It really shows the difference between a developed country and a third world country.

Yet positive proof that GOD does not exist. Because if he/she did, my endless prayers/chants/sacrificial offerings (GET RID OF GA!!!! GET RID OF GA!!!!) would have been answered. Darn bed should have been placed nearer the bookshelf. :whiste: j/k

Congrats on your new job GA.

Gayner lives in Tauranga in the North Island, he has been in contact with me and they didn't really feel it up there. And yes he is currently banned.

Hah, I just noticed a large amount of irony in this picture.

img_47.jpg

first thing I noticed when I saw that shot was that some poor gang members are gonna have to go back out there and re-tag that post. poor guys, no one ever thinks of the little people when these earthquakes happen. :(
