Good thing it was ("only" doesn't seem the right word here) a 7.2 earthquake and not a higher magnitude.

Any personal damage for you? Looks like stuff mostly got toppled over.

NZ has very high quality building codes. Which is why it looks like only the older buildings are seriously damaged.

It really shows the difference between a developed country and a third world country.

Probably a couple of the late night ones were still going, but would have been nearly empty on a Friday night (Thursday and Saturday are the big nights here). The quake hit at 4:30am.

first thing I noticed when I saw that shot was that some poor gang members are gonna have to go back out there and re-tag that post. poor guys, no one ever thinks of the little people when these earthquakes happen.
