Letchworth is an absolutely beautiful park, called the Grand Canyon of the East, and unless there are special events there (the fall craft show - 1000's of people), the park doesn't have a lot of people around. It's a nice central location, too.
A little over an hour from Rochester,
1 1/2 hours from Buffalo
Slightly over 2 hours from Jamestown
2 1/2 hours from Syracuse
2 1/2 hours from Binghamton

From elsewhere, google maps to Portageville, NY

When would be the best time? Weekend? Weekday?
Best month? July? August? September? When the leaves are changing?

Admission into the park is $6 per vehicle. I was thinking more of a family picnic style event, but am open to suggestions. They have camping available for anyone who wants to stay longer, I think it's $21 a night. (They give me the whole booklet every time I go to the park, but it always seems to get wet and thrown out before it gets into the house.)

Looking for your thoughts, ideas.

(I just kayaked down from that falls a couple weeks ago - absolutely incredible)

I've never heard of it either. Looks beautiful. I'm in NYC, so it's a little too far for me for an ATOT meet.

Wish I could be there right now! 11.80 feet from the rain we got yesterday. Very enjoyable class III rapids; perfect river to teach people on too.

The place looks fantastic.
Are the B&B's or Cabins expensive to rent around that area ?

I was just there June 20th. So far away I only go once a year, if that.
I'm not there often enough to advise on an optimal time.

I do recommend Letchworth though. You could spend a couple days gallivanting I'm sure. Plus cool temps this time of year.

No clue about the B&B's. Cabins are (IIRC) about $70 a night; might be a little more than that.

There are undoubtedly B&Bs in the area. You won't have to go far to find them. They're fairly popular in the southern tier.

Looks gorgeous, great place for a meetup. Too far from NJ for me, but I hope you get a good bunch and post more pix.

Evening bump. By no clue about B&B's, I didn't even really stop to think that many other areas of the country don't have as high a concentration of B&B's as we do in this area. There are quite a few. By no clue, I meant, no clue how much they charge, what they offer, etc.

Kinda far from me (another NYC'er) but it's probably a good thing. I couldn't imagine how many people in this forum would like to punch me in the face...lol.

Well, figured I'd wait a month & bump this again to see if there's any interest. Late summer would be awesome, and fall with the changing leaves is also awesome.

I wouldn't mind. I have camped there before and it is a nice place to visit. Seeing as I live in North Tonawanda, it is not too far for me. I will actually be visiting Alleghany sometime in August for a whole week. Another beautiful park.

I'm going. Let me know when.

I'm in Boston, so anyone who wants to carpool, or if I could potentially take the LSL out and someone can grab me?

Sounds like there's some interest now.

When do you guys think is best? Weekend, I'd assume? Fri/Sat? Sat/Sun? One day only (Sat? or Sun?)
And, pick a month

The upper falls 2 pic is a railroad bridge. It is too narrow for you to be on it when a train goes thru, so you really need some balls to go across because you can't see if a train is coming.
Or you need to be stoned out of your mind. Which I was.
