This is pretty much the only place that has the X800XT in stock (newegg is usually reliable on in stock status), so you can say it's a hot deal for those who want this card now, at any price, however exagerated it may be.

Order now before they run out, you know there are a lot of people out there that wouldn't think twice about spending this much on a top of the line video card (even though it's only slightly better than 6800gt)

Just a note this is the PCI express VIVO version. Price may be a little high but definately a nice card for anyone waiting for a highend 16x PCI express offering.

All online vendors price gouge limited release product in the beginning. You just noticed this now?

I guess you missed this X800XT VIVO at Newegg when it was in stock for $459.
Sapphire X800XT VIVO

Many places have X800XT in stock. You just have to look. AllStarShop was selling it for $999 a month or so back and is still selling X800XT for around $700.

At this price it better give excellent graphics AND make donuts.

Let's not compare ASUS to PowerColor, they are in a different league, not to mention that there is a limit of 2 per customer on the powercolor, and it costs $30 more.

that brings up a good point, what would you say the rankings are for video card manufacturers?

$500 vidcards used to be pro only material. Noone outside of professionals could justify the cost. Same is true, but people just really want it :)

Haha, this isn't even the top of the line, just a plain XT.

XT = 500/1000
XTPE = 520/1120

Newegg has the XTPE's around the same price, so just get on the in-stock email list and try to get an order placed within 30 minutes of the notification.

Powercolor are usually priced lower, and they usually come out with all the cut down versions of graphics cards. But usually if the specs are the same (same gpu,speed,memory) then performance of graphics cards is also the same, so what differentiates the same model from two companies is the price, the bundled extras, warranty, and customer service. If you plan to overclock, than some cards may have better chance to overclock higher if they have a better cooler.

Because a company makes budget cards doesnt specifically mean they are a low class manufacturer. In fact I've heard very good stories about Powercolor, both in online reviews as well as user reviews.

In fact their budget 9800SE was well famed for easy modding into a full 9800pro with just a softmod. 111 reviews at Newegg mainly all 5 star with a few 4 stars. Their other graphics cards also seem to get 4-5 stars on average as well.

Reviews for the budget 9800SE

I just don't like them becaue in the past they managed to trick me into buying a 9600 pro "easy version" card which is actually not a 9600 pro (I don't have the box any longer, but I could swear it said "pro" on the box, and for some time I believed it was really a pro, and that the graphics performance sucked because of other reasons).

Haha, they still have this scam going (unblievable), selling cut down version as a 9600 pro - they actually call it a "pro" even though the memory clock speed is 400 instead of 600 MHz, like in a standard spec 9600 pro. Someone please sue them for this already....

Sapphire did the same thing, but afaik they both did actually use 9600/9800 pro cores on those models however they used a lower memory bandwith (64bit or 128bit instead of 256bit) causing the performance to be lacking but not actually using a different or lower core. Also the EZ models normally have lower clocks than a stock/normal core if I recall. For most it's become common knowledge for anyone who has researched graphic cards but the companies could better explain / make known the properties of the cards as well as the resellers for that matter as most barely list a full description on the products. I won't purchase a card unless I can clearly tell its pipelines, memory bandwith, memory type, as well as the core and clock speeds without question.

first, this is totally not acceptable, as the a model designation implies both the core version and speed and the memory clock. Second, my ATI driver identifies the card as 9600 without "pro" (that is, a 9600 non-pro, which is a piece of junk).

From the link you posted, the speed matches 9600 pro core and does state 9600pro so if in fact yours is a 9600 non-pro then you may have a point, however the arguement over the memory is a little different, far as I can tell it clearly states 400mhz memory and thus you cant really argue over not getting 600mhz. All I can say is research your purchases a little better, and if it was sold to you under other pretenses argue it with your reseller or simply return it after you found out it wasnt what you expected.
