You also said above you plan on operating it at 5GHz, you are a hostile fellow.

Take a breath.

To be fair, Rolodomo could perhaps install dd-wrt and set the router for 5GHz operation. His wireless would be very secure.

Isn't it clear by now the radio is not enabled for 5 GHz operation? READ and then let it go.

Hey, people won't let me concede the radio is not enabled for 5 GHz, so there's no way I'm going to interpret your response as a stab at subtle humor.

I installed DD-WRT as soon as I turned on the router, but I can't change anything in the web interface, because it is set to refresh every 3 seconds including when I make a change in the interface (ending the update process in the middle). I can't even turn that option off, as the refresh always happens before the update finishes.

Is there anyway to make that adjustment outside the web-browser interface, where I might be able to turn that feature off? As of right now, I can't seem to make any changes on the router.

Got mine yesterday. Didn't even try the Asus firmware. Installed Tomato USB from the start. Its working great! I have read a lot of reviews stating Tomato is better than DD-WRT....

Set mine up last night, here is what you need to do to install Tomato USB (with VPN and NTFS support)

1. Use the update firmware option in the ASUS web interface to flash DD-WRT mini (it thinks it is an official ASUS firmware) :
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.../dd-wrt.v24-15778_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N16.trx
2. Flash to Tomato USB VPN (their equivalent of DD-WRT's Big package):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tom...-K26-1.28.9054MIPSR2-beta-vpn3.6.rar/download

You might want to reset all settings to default using the web interface between steps and afterwards as well, likely not necessary, but it would be the safe thing to do.

So far so good, but I discovered the Ubuntu 10.10 does not like Wireless N on my Intel 5100 wifi card. Windows 7 works fine.

You can just straight flash to TomatoUSB after setting the router in recovery mode. The transfer with "hang" at 33% but the transfer will complete anyways. Worked for me just fine and no problems that I can see atm. Be aware that wireless is on by default.

And if you disable the radio before flashing, the Asus flashing program won't work.

I used these instructions with success:

I didn't have much issue with getting DD-WRT on the router tho getting everything else working wasn't as straightforward. But this router now has replaced my old fileserver. I have a USB drive shared from it that serves up files to all my Windows/Ubuntu computers. I also have a printer connected via USB that all OS can print to. Also running the Transmission web torrent service and OpenDNS content filtering. Amazing little box.

What does the 128mb ram do for you? I have a linksys wrt-350n that I use and so far its rock solid with dd-wrt.

I don't think you need 128mb for your wireless to stay stable. My old wrt-54g was and still is rock solid.

I sold my 54g because it was the one that was dropping my wifi.
