P4S533 bios works on a P4S333

i just flashed my P4S333 bios with bios v1006 from the new P4S533.

all went well. (dos flash)
it says warning during flash, but just ignore it.
it now says my motherboard is a P4S533!
the only possible problem i can see it that it offers UDMA 6 for HDs.
for now i played it safe and set them to UDMA 5. ill test the 6 setting later.

this new bios has a 4:6 (2:3) memory ratio above 132fsb!
it also has a 3:6 (1:2) ratio below 133fsb too!
400DDR baby!

gluck and have fun all you P4S333 owners out there!

UPDATES:
* PCProbe v2.1601 or better is now fully functional.
* P4S533 bios v1006c is actually bios v1005c.
* Power supply fan and case fan RPM readings are reversed in bios and in PC Probe.
* CPU and Motherboard temps are reversed in bios and in PC Probe.
to fix pcprobe temps - open the asuspb.ini file and remove the last 2 lines.
* WARNING the UDMA 6 setting is unstable. (possible data loss)
* The P4S533 beta bios v1007.002 is working for most ppl, but not all. shows a nice improvement if it works.
* 4:6 memory ratio doesnt seem to be stable for everyone. some ppl need additional mem voltage.
* some users report they have the 4:6 ratio from 100fsb upto 160fsb - lucky bastids
* WARNING the P4S533 1008 beta bios might kill your P4S333 bios (e.g. the trick doesn't work anymore)

please post your feedback on any and all issues - thx :D

I Might do it but you said "reinstall Windows twice" ??

Uh oh i Don't feel like doing that..

I think he meant that Windows will want to reboot twice as it finds changed hardware. I hope that's all it is anyway, reinstalling twice would be a real hassle.

Yeah, I've been reading about people doing this on this FORUM. Here's a quote from "swannema" about what's so great about this new bios:

"Boot-up time is 5 seconds faster.
I gained about 100mb bandwidth in Sisoft Sandra.
Feels faster: My programs are opening quicker, which could come from the better memory performance.

...

Old bios:

CPU score: 5287
Memory score: 5339
Hdd score: 877

New bios:

CPU score: 5399
Memory score: 5501
Hdd score: 895

All score are slightly higher, nothing big, but still an improvement. I run the test 5 times, scores were almost identical each time."

:D

<< windows will reinstall 2 (NEW) items and reboot >>

hehe, you dont have to reinstall windows - just 2 pieces of hardware.

i posted some benchmark scores in the overclocking forum here.

 sorry about that.

I did the flash today, and everything went fine. Well besides the OC.

I can't get any higher than 133 fsb with the memory ratio set to 4:6

Though with 4:5 I am running at 148 FSB and have about the same scores as with the P4S333 bios.

Also, Windows IS SNAPPIER, actually a little faster. I really like this P4S533 bios!

anyone else try this? any new issues that have come up? I'm tempted to try, but a little worried.

"anyone else try this? any new issues that have come up? I'm tempted to try, but a little worried" What you waiting on someone to blow up their computer to convince you not to try! Get with the program. I have it running for the last 12 hours trouble free (will not go at 4:6 - Ram beeps but then its only Pc2100). It does feel snappier. It detected 2 new ISA/PCI system bridge devices under WINXP.

ive been running it for 3 days and no problems at all.
havent heard of any problems from anyone else either.

looks like the 4:6 memory ratio is of better use to ppl running under 133fsb.

some reports that the UDMA6 mode is showing some improvements for ppl too. although i dont see how! lol - maybe theres a rev2 board, i donno. (mine showed no difference)

many, many, reports that windows boots and runs faster. (i agree)

ill keep this thread updated :)

I just flashed to the P4S533 bios and couldn't figure out how to get PCProbe to work (wrong chipset error). Do I need a newer version than what's supplied on the CD? If so where can I find?

sweet, I was about to ask if there was a good monitoring system. Thanks.

Heh, if this is true, this is awesome. MB temp is 32C while CPU temp is 28C. BTW, 1.6a overclocked with the standard 2133 overclock. Was trying to go higher but not sure which settings to go with. I have 512mg of Samsung DDR333 in one stick btw.

Any help would be appreciated.

GtPrOjEcTX - the 1st thing to do is set the voltage jumper on the motherboard. that will give you a 1.6v default. from there you can increase the fsb to like 140.
if it crashes add more voltage in .025 increasments.
*remember that once youve set that jumper that your bios core voltage option values will be incorrect - 1.5v will now equal 1.6v, 1.525v will now equal 1.625v etc. keep that in mind when setting voltages.

if your system wont boot from the off position - youve gone too far and would need to "wire mod" your cpu for even more default voltage.

in aSUS probe my cpu and mobo temps are reversed!

I could possible go for a higher OC but I really don't like to push the vcore much. 1.6500 in the bios is fine with me. I also have my DDR voltage at 2.7 ( Jumper on mobo )

BIG QUESTION: does the P4S533 BIOS provide for 1:5 FSB PCI divider? This means that if your processor is up to it, you could run at 166FSB with the PCI bus still within design specification at 33MHz. Currently the MSI 645 Ultra outdoes Asus in this, who don't provide it, except that it probably means little in practice when you cannot raise the memory voltage and are capped at 1.6Vcore or something low with it.

You can get Asus Probe to correctly report the temps by editing the AsusPB.ini file. At the end of the file it reverses the temps, just delete those few lines and resave the file and restart probe.

giocopiano - there is no way for me to know if there is a 1/5 PCI divider.
no software can access that info, and my system can run 44mhz PCI all day long ;)

Hi! I would like to know if the P4S533 Bios works with the first generation P4S333 Motherboard? And can I just use the Asus Bios Update program to update it? Thanks!
