my only comment is for you to benchmark it both ways and compare for yourself.
you are correct tho - ratios induce latency.

(cas222 as high as you can go VS. By SPD as high as you can go)

going from 333ddr to 400ddr is worth about 60-65mhz in CPU terms.
 
Watch out for the 1008 beta bios -- over in ASUSBOARDS.COM there is a thread that burning it on a P4S333 turns your bios chip into crap (e.g. the trick doesn't work anymore).
