ASUS GTX 570 DCII - Great card but odd whining / noise while in DX11

Hey there everyone, I've been really really pleased so far with both the performance and low noise level from my new shiny ASUS GTX 570

However during any sort of DX11 the card lets out a medium pitched "whine". As SOON as i alt tab back into windows the noise stops.

Not sure if it needs time to "break in" or what.

This is at stock speeds and stock voltage. However i was able to play crysis 2 stable at 800 / 2000 at .985v

EDIT: Computer details

ASUS P8P67 Pro
i7 2600k @ 4.4ghz
8 gb of DDR 3 1600 Corsair
GTX 570 DCII
1 HDD, 1 Optical
Antec TruPower 550 watt

Install FRAPS and I'd bet that it only whines when you're getting like 2000fps.

Nvm looks like it's happening all the time. Sounds like you got a whiny card.

You bought the direct cu to run at stock voltage at 800 core?😕
I've installed cards with non reference coolers and left them at stock, I just wanted the additional cooling to ensure reliability no matter what. But the high frequency noise is the result of the regulator sections switching harmonics, which can be very annoying.

BTW, that card is absolutely huge, fair warning to people considering it.

Sometimes its your psu that is whining. Sometimes the video card. You have noticed it happens under load.
What psu do you have , how old is it ?
Rest of computer information.
Are you using a powerstrip or extension cord ?

It's not under load, its when i flip into DX11 (or tab back into a game) . Alt tab back to windows, it stops immediately. Tab back, whine. etc.

I have a 3 month old Antec 550 trupower
i7 2600k @ stock speeds
8 gig DDR3 1600 corsair
1 Sata hdd
1 optical

Do you mean the "fan"s are makeing a whiny noise?

or...

Do you mean a ceramic capacitor was "singing"?

Hmmmm, I'm fairly sure it is not a fan noise. Also im 99% sure its the GTX 570 because i just had an XFX 5770 in the same machine and it did not occur.

So a its a capasitor noise... Man I hate those, usually really high pitched.
My dad has bad hearing, he probably wouldnt mind too much. But I notice even the "fluorescent light bulbs"? I believe their called, they often whine and its madning.

Did you hook both the 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors up ?
Its a redundant question, but people have done strange things.

both 6 and the 8 pin connectors are securely installed, as well is the LEDs lit up on the card by the power connectors.

Ugh, its been 2 weeks and the noise is so annoying, anyone else having the problem?

I want to RMA but i don't want to be video cardless and stuck waiting.

damnit

Have you forced vsync through ntune? I get that annoying super high pitched whine in the start menu of nwn2 unless I have vsync turned on (results from 3000 fps).

Try vsync.

Every video card I've owned since the 8800GTS has been a whine-fest without vsync on. With it off the capacitors overload because the fps is in the 100s.

Capacitors can NOT whine (physically impossible). But they can be the cause of the whining, and this whining is coming from the inductor squealing. Its normal and you shouldn't worry about it.

However it can get very annoying so try different settings like the use of vsnyc like the others suggested.

Well turning Vsync on did significantly reduce the whine, however there is still some there. I guess since my new computer is so quiet even the slightest buzz or whine is noticeable. I would say turning vsync on reduced whine by about 80% ... so now its more than tolerable.

Still sorta odd though especially for such a nice GPU. Thanks guys.

Not sure if im just getting used to it or if it's decreasing. Will keep posted. I was considering buying another one of these to SLI as well.

I'm getting a similar type of whining noise as the fan spins up in games. I've only tried StarCraft II so far.

This is completely harmless, right? My case's cover is off right now so when I close it up I can barely hear it, so noise isn't an issue for me. I was just concerned the noise might indicate some kind of problem or fault...

Btw does anyone get crashes when overclocking this in the new Deus Ex game?

Sounds like little bells ringing. I remember my old system used to have this noise, turned out to be a loose molex connector hitting the spinning CPU fan.

I had this problem on my old 4870, it came from the PCB components of the card itself (after troubleshooting for ages), under high load it has a very annoying bbnnnzzzz noise. Its not loud, its the pitch that is irritating.
