Wow, I had my heart set on that board. I guess I know better now than to design a system around a board that was announced but not yet produced. I'm sure all the hype about SLI is what ruined it. Damn... and I despise SLI... fooling ppl into thinking it's a cheaper upgrade path! I could care less if a year from now I can play old games really fast. To play the latest games in all their glory you'll need a next gen card, not 2 old gen cards. Calculate the extra price of a more expensive mb, an extra video card (even one year down the line) and you pay more for an old solution. BTW, you can have a deal... only if you could buy that 2nd video card today at 1/2 the price, not one or more years from now. Don't get me wrong, if you've got the money, want the best available, and are not buying it because of the "cheap upgrade path" then go for it.. it's a very powerful solution.

Blah... Sorry to vent... I guess there are more MBs out there... and it is JUST a motherboard. ;-)

Well, I wasn't going to do it, but in light of this news, I've e-mailed ASUS. What may be true for Europe, may not be true for the US. They are different markets, so maybe there is a possibility that it will hit the shelves in the US. I just find it hard to believe that all the effort and design went into a board like that, and now they aren't going to make a cent of profit on the board? What gives? I'll post here once I get an answer.

I also had my heart set on this board. Only one I can find that has a passive solution on the nForce4 chip...

I would say that I'd go ahead with the SLI board, but it takes away WiFi, which I probably won't use anyway, but it also adds a fan to the nForce4 chip. Although, this is the first board that I've seen where the nForce4 chip is in an ideal location to remove the fan, and install one of the Zalman coolers. Looks like you could even mount the tall Zalman heat sink to this board and still not block any slots (unless you get a really long 1x PCI-E card or something.

Ah, only the second one I've seen with passive cooling. Impressive. Only real problem with this motherboard, is there is no S/PDIF connection, coax or optical. There would be a need for an audio card, in order to get digital sound to the receiver. Man, why wasn't this on-board? That seems odd.

Strange, in the description, it says that it supports coax S/PDIF. Wonder where the connector is then? Maybe a PCI plate panel or something?

From what I have seen the gigabyte Nforce 4 Ultra board is out in limited quantities. At least one retiler in the UK said they had it in stock. I am thinking that I will go with the gigabyte board, yes, it has a heatsink fan, but I feel I can trust it more than the chaintech. If it doesn't come out soon though I'm just going to give up on n-force 4 and go with an agp board. Can anyone confirm that the gigabyte is actually shipping - particularly to the US? Thanks

I for one really doubt Feb at this point... I've emailed Asus and they didn't mention anything like that. All they said was I would be notified when it is released. I'm sure if it was early Feb they would have said in a couple weeks to a month. Earlier emails confirm "not for a while". My gut tells me that we may never see this board, let alone in the near future. One of those times I hope my gut is wrong ;-)

Well, since not many nForce 4 Ultra (non-SLI) boards are out yet, I still think there is a possibility of this board coming out. Why it would take so much longer to make a non-SLI board, when you already have an SLI board out, I don't know. Heck, I would think they would want to be one of the first to market, to capture all the people that itch for the newest technology, and want it first. (Of course, those people are probably buying SLI rigs.)

I'm still waiting for my response from ASUS, and hope it comes soon, with some good news. I don't really need to buy until around the end of Feb, or early March.

Given that the ASUS A8N-E Premium motherboard is the only one of the bunch to provide 802.11 support, the issue may simple be a regulatory one. They may be waiting for the FCC part 15 and other government approvals. Just a thought

Could be, but there are already a lot of other board makers that include a PCI card that is 802.11. I wouldn't think it would be much different, but who knows, since it's built onto the motherboard. (Don't they have an older motherboard (ASUS) that has 802.11, or is that another one that hasn't come out yet?)

It wouldn't make a difference, since each new pc board layout would need its own certification. The FCC requires that all "intentional radiators" (i.e. a 802.11 transmitter) be Certified by an accredited lab and that the lab results be sent to the FCC. In some cases "a Declaration of Conformity" could be issued by the manufacturer, but in either case official paperwork delays the final approval.

Well the Chaintech VNF4/Ultra just became available on Newegg.com again... now the tough choice.. do I wait for more to become available or not.

I can't find any reviews for this board... anyone have some links?

The review posted by geogecko is for the VE version.. Is that the same board?

Good call... well it is a decent board... never used a Chaintech mb before though. Anyhow, it's not exactaly what i'm looking for so I guess i'm going to pass (doesn't even have onboard LAN and the audio isn't the greatest).
